Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Temp was 34.  Sunny hazy.  Could have worn one layer.  Still has runny nose.  Glute was tight pre-run, felt fine post run with good stretches.

Nice run. Lunch sounds good! I am starving, pooped and FREEZING!!! I wonder if my furnace is broken? Have you ever notice that after you get finished being hot after a run, that you get really cold and STAY cold if you don't get in the shower soon enough?

From leslie on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 16:16:40

Smooth have fun with the girls! Is Wendy the cute gal that ran with us in Lehi? Tell her Happy Birthday if it is.

Marion, I am freezing right now too! Off to the couch I go to wrap up in a warm blanket and finish Twilight.

From Marion on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 16:50:27

I am finally warm!

From Smooth on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 16:52:36

Marion,

Yes, I always freeze after a "sweaty run". I had to hurry and jump in a warm shower. That's why my post-run stretching is not consistent. I do try to stretch in the shower. I also "shake" a lot after a race too. Kind of like right after you had a baby with those uncontrollable shakes. Weird. The first time it happened I thought I was hypothermic. But it happened even in summer races. In the summer though, I would get in an ice-bath, I don't like it. But, it's the best thing for recovery. So remember that this summer after your long runs, get in an ice bath for 10-15 min. before showering.

Les,

Yes, Wendy is my best friend. She is turning 48 on Thursday. I told her about our upcoming Painter's party. She wished she could come, her daughters have basketball games. She might run Dam to Dam. We are doing the Runner's Series to get in SGM. I haven't talked to her since Thanksgiving so it was good for us (there were 4 of us) to get "caught up" with each other's lives.

From Marion on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 16:59:05

Yes Smooth- the ice baths are WONDERFUL! I started doing them last summer with my calf injury and they are a miracle. I have to wear a sweatshirt in the bath. My boys think it is HILARIOUS and love to throw the ice in.

From Smooth on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 17:03:18

Marion,

:) I can just see your SWEET boys "helping" you with the ice bath! :)

From Kelli on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 17:19:56

Lunch with friends sounds nice. I need to go make some friends!!! My birthday is....kidding.

Great run today!

From rhett on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 17:50:10

Looks like a good recovery run. You're going to do great at Painter's.

From Teena on Tue, Jan 13, 2009 at 23:58:38

What a fun day for you! How was lunch?

See you in a little over three days!! Yahoo!!

Kelli,

Yes, when's your b'day? We have to go celebrate. Where's your favorite place for lunch?

Rhett,

Thanks, I hope your foot/ankle gets better and you'll have a good race at Painter's.

Teena,

Lunch was great at Olive Garden. I hadn't seen/talked to my friends since before Thanksgiving, so we had alot to catch up on.

I'm still undecided on shorts or tights. Last year I ran in tights. The weather is going to be perfect. I'm so excited to see you. I HOPE I will see you. Are you going to 2 Fat Guys w/ the Flyers?

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:05:53

What time does the race start and where is it? I do not know what to wear---it is like getting dressed for prom!

From Marion on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:08:10

The race is at 9am and the projected temps are 34-60 degrees. I am going to call the St George running center tomorrow to see what the temp is at 9am :)

From Smooth on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:28:56

Kelli & Marion,

Yes, the race starts at 9 am in front of the Dixie Center (the SGM Expo/packet pick up place).

Since you girls are going down early, you can pick up the packet at the Rec. Center (across the street from Worthen Park where SGM finish is) before or after the matinee movie.:)

I checked accuweather.com. It looks like the temp would be between 38-40 at the start. I'm going to bring both shorts and tights and long sleeve tops, cap and sunglasses.

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:30:24

I think I will just pack my entire workout basket from my closet, that ought to cover it!

From Teena on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:33:24

Smooth,

I need to look at the update on the flyers luncheon. I probably will, but not sure!

What time are you going to be at the race?

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:34:40

What the heck is a FLYER?

From Marion on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:40:10

I am glad to hear about the 40 degree start :) That makes life doable. We'll gather the packets. Kelli, do you know where that place is?

From Smooth on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:42:15

Teena,

I think I'll get there 45 min. before race start so I can use the potty. I do hope you'll come to the luncheon. It's at 1pm at the 2 Fat Guys Pizzeria on the Bloomington strip by WalMart. That might be the only time I get to see you 'cause you're so stinkin' fast.

Kelli,

It's the other forum. They call themselves Flyers. It was formed about 4 or 5 years ago in Jan.; so every Jan they tried to have an anniverdary get-together and Painter's was/is the event to have it. If you don't have any plan for lunch, you're welcomed to join us.

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:44:13

I am sure Scott does, I kind of know about where it is!

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:45:11

I see, you guys have more than one group of friends! Is that the forum you two met each other on?

From Smooth on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:48:51

Yes, well sort of. We (Teena and her brother) met in persons during the race in Ogden 07 at around mile 11. Later we discovered that we were on the same St. George flyer forum. Some of the flyers are on the FRB too.

From rhett on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:49:12

Can packets be picked up at the Dixie Center on the morning of the race? I thought I read that somewhere, but can't seem to find the info anywhere. I hate the website for this race. I never seem to be able to find the right info or the web site for that matter.

From Smooth on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:52:30

Yes, Rhett, you can pick up the packet morning of. They had always set up the packet pick up outside by the finish line; not inside the Dixie Center. So get there early enough for parking and look for the table.

From Marion on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:52:57

From Marion on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:53:48

Hey Kelli and Susanna- I spoke to Lisa (condo owner) and her world would be PERFECT if we could be all out of the condo by 1. I told her we could. I told her we just needed to shower after the race. There is another group coming in a t 5 and the cleaners need to get in. There are two full bathrooms, and hopefully a big water heater :) I am a speedy shower chick... wish that translated into races. Hey we could have a shower race and I would WIN!!! :)

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:53:51

I no nothing about this race! Is the start line and finish line the same or are we getting on buses?

I am so excited to not have to wake up at 3 am!!!!

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:55:50

You will have to bang on the door to remind me to hurry, I could stay in the shower ALL DAY! It is a very bad habit!

But, yes, 1 is doable. Only half of us will still need a shower!

From Marion on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:57:17

DAvid is a shower hog. I am too ADD for showering. Too much else to do... like EAT!!

From Smooth on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:57:32

Marion,

Ok, the shower race is on. I have to be at the luncheon in Bloomington by 1 pm so I will have a quick one.

Kelli,

Yes, the start and finish line is the same place, the road in front of the Dixie Center.

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 15:59:37

I am liking this race more and more! So, do we run on the trail that goes through Bloomington? I have ridden bikes on that before!

From Smooth on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 16:04:45

The course is like a figure 8. We run the first 3 miles north then east of the Dixie Center. Then we get on the trail. We run counter-clockwise around the bloomington hill (neighborhood) from mile 8 - 11. Then back on the trail to the finish. If you've ridden bikes there, you know the way. It's fun to watch the winners coming on the opposite lane (their mile 12, my mile 7), very cool and exciting.

From leslie on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 16:09:59

I did the race years ago, I have bad memories, they closed the race down before I finished. My worst race EVER! I hear it is much better now, I can't remember the route, and it has probably changed, when I did it, it started and finished at the Painters car dealership. It the course very hilly?

From rhett on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 16:12:06

Thank you! I've been wondering why they call it Painter's. Not being from around there, I had no clue there was a car dealership with that name and who I assume sponser's the race.

From leslie on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 16:22:02

I met the race director last year at the Grand Canyon he was embaressed that I didn't get a proper finish, he said the race has improved alot over the years. I still have a bad taste in my mouth about this race, I really hope it is better. If you have done it several times Smooth, it must be good!

From Smooth on Wed, Jan 14, 2009 at 16:30:02

Yes, Painter's is an RV/boat dealership, prominently printed on the race sweatshirt. No, we don't run over there anymore. It's a very nice trail. There is a bridge where the phtotographer took pictures last year. Also on the out and back section. Be sure to holler and smile at the photo-guy.

The aid stations were at the trail head around mile 3, just before getting up to Bloomington about mile 7.5 and same spot on the way back mile 11.5
