Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Plan was to run up Suncrest (aka hill workout) for the MLR this morning.  It didn't happen for various reasons of which the main one being I couldn't even see the field across from my house no less the mountain I was to run on.  It was pea soup out there!  SO!  I improvised!

Uphill:  Warm up 2 miles @ 1% incline.  Then increase the incline by 0.5% every 0.25 mile 'till maximum incline of 10% all @ 10:00 pace.  Got to the "top of the mountain" at mile 7.25.  Boy, that was hard but sure felt GOOD!!!

Return home:  Then I ran the remaining miles on "flat" (wish the TM had decline) progressively @ 9:22, 9:13, 9:05, 8:57, 8:49.   Will have to tackle Suncrest another day with more time, better air and visability!!!

TT: 1:55:50  AP: 9:39

Off to have lunch with friends to celebrate their birthdays!!!!  Then to the barber for haircut...

Happy running everyone!!!

Holy Cow Smooth! That is killer incline and pace while doing it. I think you got more than a 'suncrest' workout! nice miles, way to keep up the workout despite the 'soup'!

way to improvise! that is a serious TM workout. great job, smooth.

Glad you decided to stay inside. After my short run outside, I was coughing quite a bit from all the smog. Disgusting.

From Andy on Thu, Jan 14, 2010 at 18:15:32 from 198.60.114.178

You have become quite the die hard. I don't think that I can run 10:00 pace on a 10% incline.

From AmberG on Thu, Jan 14, 2010 at 21:52:05 from 209.33.225.111

Seriously. look at your miles. . . AMAZING! you have got serious motivation going for you . . . .great treadmill run on a steep incline!

Nice TM hills. That is more intense than I get on the TM. PEA SOUP? HAHAHA LOL. We need snow so your family can go skiing!!

10% incline? wow, and you say you aren't superwoman!? Great job Smooth, I will have to try that sometime. Sounds like an intense workout.

Smooth, Nice miles this week. You are really in some prime shape. You're going to have an amazing 2010.

From DonGardinero on Fri, Jan 15, 2010 at 14:44:47 from 75.162.101.127

Hey Smoothie, I heard there was a bomb threat at Lehi High School and it's in lockdown. They even closed the on and off ramps to I-15. Scary stuff.

From JulieC on Fri, Jan 15, 2010 at 14:48:06 from 65.100.254.195

Great TM run VP. Yah, when you can't see Suncrest mountain, not a good idea to run up it. The day I ran I could see it but oddly no wind. Which is the Valley's problem right now. Did you get a good look at the fog this morning? I drove home in it, visibilty 100ft. So surreal, like a ghost town.

From Rhett on Fri, Jan 15, 2010 at 14:50:05 from 216.67.211.75

Nice improv. Looks like you got in a great run.

Rachel ~ THANKS! You'll be conquering mountains w/ your long legs soon...after the baby comes of course!

allie ~ Hope school's going good for ya!

Dale ~ I hear ya on the yucky smog! What are we to do?!!!

Andy ~ You don't run on the TM period! You just charge up some steep mountain roads like nut'n! :)

Amber ~ Wish we had beautiful canyon trails like yours to run on. Hope your little guys are all better today!!!

Kathie ~ Just following Pfitz. We'll see when this old body falls apart! :)

Bec ~ Prez and the boys are crossing their fingers for a snow storm on Sun.

SSF!!! ~ I kept thinking about how you floated up Puke Hill effortlessly! I want to be like you! :) Can't wait for a week from now! Miss and love you!!!

Sam ~ HI there!!! Thanks!

vinh ~ That was a fun TM workout! GOOD LUCK tomorrow! Sub 1:40 here you come!!!

Scott ~ Thanks! I plan on having lotsa fun in 2010! :)

Dale ~ My son called me just as I was ready to go for a run. I stayed tuned to KSL 'till the lock-down was lifted. Some dumb 16 yr old, not even student at Lehi, made the bomb threat phone call. It sure disrupts school, police, traffic, and had everyone in a frenzy.

Julie ~ I remember I used to drive home from Provo after work in the wee hours on foggy winter days. It was so foggy around PG and AF on I-15 that I couldn't see more than 50 ft ahead. It was very scary especially when there was no car in front of me to follow. I'd drift off the freeway a few times. Glad you made it home safe.

I envied your run up Suncrest recently. I look out yearningly my kitchen windows at Suncrest every morning! :)

Rhett ~ We need a huge storm to clear this inversion muck for a quality outside run SOOO bad!!!
