Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Hubby's "kiss good bye words" were:  DO NOT RUN OUTSIDE TODAY!"  So, onto the TM in the dungeon I went after eating breakfast and seeing how the road was treacherous.

Warm up 4 miles (5-7mph);  TT: 40:00 (AP: 10:00)

Mile repeats x 3 @ 7:30

RI of 0.25 mile @ 10:00

Finish w/ 1 mile @ 8:34

Cool down 0.25 mi @ 10:00,

5.25 miles (6-8mph); TT: 43:22 (AP: 8:15)

Felt great throughout the run.  Contemplating what to do the next training cycle with Boston as goal race.  I used Pfitzinger's 18/55 for Boston'08 and the 24/55 for Boston'09.   Trying to decide if I should use the 18/70 for Boston'10.  I do know I don't want to follow the FIRST program that I used for SGM'09.  Also need to incorporate some xtraining.

Is your husband the stake president?

From Smooth on Tue, Dec 08, 2009 at 15:18:05 from 174.23.201.210

Yes!

From Burt on Tue, Dec 08, 2009 at 15:26:38 from 12.231.112.98

I guess you better listen to him...

From jun on Tue, Dec 08, 2009 at 15:34:18 from 66.239.250.209

You listen to your spouse? Hm, if I did that I don't think I would do anything crazy - I mean fun. Ha. Way to listen.

From Smooth on Tue, Dec 08, 2009 at 15:41:56 from 174.23.201.210

Burt & jun ~

Haha! Don't tell my stake prez...I'd like him to think that I "listened" to him. But in reality...after spending the last 10 days in Houston's "freezing 30's & 40"s weather; the body was in a bit of a shock. I don't mind the cold; it's the slippery that scares me!

Oh jun, You DO plenty CRAZY (er, FUN) stuff alright!

From Smooth on Tue, Dec 08, 2009 at 16:58:01 from 174.23.201.210

Hey Julie ~ Didn't notice it 'till you point it out. I just checked my 2008 mileage to see how close I was to 2K. It was slightly over 1,700, not even close. 2009 has been a good running year for me! Hope for the same or better for 2010!

From Rhett on Tue, Dec 08, 2009 at 17:39:53 from 216.67.211.250

Welcome home Smooth. Let us know which plan you decided to follow for Boston. Maybe I should follow a scheduled plan for a change. I haven't used one in a few years.

From vinh on Tue, Dec 08, 2009 at 21:53:25 from 71.68.254.197

Great session Smooth! You gotta feel good after that. Hopefully one day, I'll join you at Boston =P

From Smooth on Tue, Dec 08, 2009 at 23:12:39 from 174.23.201.210

Rhett ~ You're a PRO! You don't need any schedule. I am always in awed by your training. You're the one who needs to share your training plan with us!

Vinh ~ You'll be running Boston before you know it...you're a great runner!

From Teena on Wed, Dec 09, 2009 at 00:28:29 from 174.52.45.85

SSF -- Why don't you stick with the 18/55. You did so so so AWESOME when you followed that plan and you stayed clear of injury!!!! :) Whatever you decide will be brilliant!!! :)

7:30 mile repeats!!! ARE YOU NUTS???

I have missed you so much and am hoping that you are going to want to party as soon as finals are over! :)

Sleep well. :)

From Smooth on Wed, Dec 09, 2009 at 00:35:14 from 174.23.201.210

SSF ~ GOOD thinking! What would I do w/o you! When will finals be over? MISS YOU tons! 7:30 is NOT that fast on the TM...remember my TM is SLOW! :) Sleep tight, may the bed bugs kiss you!

From LuzyLew on Wed, Dec 09, 2009 at 13:30:25 from 208.187.197.42

Relegated to the basement TM. That is harsh.....Thanks for the info on Boston yesterday. I told Cath, but she really thinks this is a good year for a baby and feels like it's just not her year. I'm so bummed. It's her fault to begin with that I even run any marathons in the first place, and doubly hers (and your fault) I BQ'd this year. So Thanks also for posting your Boston training ideas. I really know nothing about running. So having a few training guides beside's Hal Higdon (Catherine's favorite) might be helpful. I don't feel confident about Boston now and not looking forward as much because I'm a little intimidated. The winter training, plus the hill running and traveling to get there are making me feel old.

From Smooth on Wed, Dec 09, 2009 at 14:31:42 from 174.23.201.210

Kellie ~ Hey there cute girl! Yeah right, obedient wife, hahahaha!!! You know me better!

Kathie ~ What plan are you using for Boston?

Luzy ~ Good for Cath taking a year off to have a baby! She can join us in 2011.

No worries about Boston and winter training. That's the beauty of it. If it weren't for the enticing Boston party, I'd be sitting on my big fat behind! :) Training thru the winter is really quite fun. I guess my body prefer running in the cooler clime than scorching heat.

No worries about Boston as far as time goal is concerned. You have already "won" by qualifying. You are on the top 10% of all marathoners by virtue of your BQ. Boston will be a party, a victory lap. The goal is to get to Beantown healthy and enjoy the experience. So in a nut shell, just run to maintain your fitness. Remember you BQ time is good for 2011 too.

Traveling is the fun part. I have my room already booked; just watching for airfare now! Piece of cake. You'll love Boston, I promise!

From LuzyLew on Wed, Dec 09, 2009 at 14:43:33 from 208.187.197.42

On my Boston Marathon Confirmation, they gave a promotional code for special rates on JetBlue. I don't know if you got that or not. I haven't thought that far ahead.

From LuzyLew on Wed, Dec 09, 2009 at 14:44:29 from 208.187.197.42

So far I'm staying with friends, but how to get there is another story.

From Smooth on Wed, Dec 09, 2009 at 14:58:07 from 174.23.201.210

Luz ~ Where in Boston are you staying? Will your friends be able to drop you off at the start line? Then you wouldn't have to worry about taking the bus to Hopkinton. Transportation in Boston is very convenient with the Charlie card. One week pass is only $15 with unlimited rides.
