Long-Term Running Goals:

Run happy and healthy all the days of my life. Be an example and inspiration to my family.

Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Had a date night with hubby since he didn't have any meetings and the boys were going to Institute.  We went to see Letters to Juliet...total chick flicks.  The theater was filled with girls and a couple of sweet husbands! :)  I must have eaten 5 lbs of chocolate!

Today was supposed to be 5 recovery miles.  But my friends wanted to do their *long* run today since they're leaving town for the weekend.  We (Karen, her dog Sky, Wendy and Carolyn) drove down to the JRP at 6am.   What a beautiful morning!  We saw cranes, ducks, geese,  goats, llama, black cows, bulls and calves.  We shared inspiring stories of our sons' missions, tips on raising teenagers, back to school stuff.  A nice run on the trail w/ friends.  10 mi in 1:37:39.  AP: 9:45.  I think that's a doable AP for me at PCM!

Note:  The trail is opened on the south end all the way to the lake with p-o-ps and drinking fountains at Willow Park and at the model-airplane-park.

Off to see Auntie Ruthie in Salt Lake.  She is not doing very well.  :(

Wonderful night and amazing morning run! Thanks for the info on the trail, I've been trying to get up some courage to venture down there for a long run! I'm just too attached to my baby boy.

I hope Aunt Ruthie gets feeling better with your sweet, smiling face!

Thanks all!

Auntie Ruthie is 92 years old, the only surviving sibling. she is a wonderful lady, hard working, very devoted to her children and family. she went to Barbetos to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas with her daughter and stayed till a week ago. the next day after she got home, she fell down a flight of stairs and suffered massive subdural hematoma. she was in the hospital since and was moved to a care center last night. things aren't looking good. she did open her eyes to look at me but no other responds! I am so sad! I don't do well with goodbyes especially the long term ones!

From JulieC on Thu, Aug 12, 2010 at 18:41:56 from 71.35.249.2

oh that does sound not easy to handle. Hard especially when one week she is doing so well and then the next she is needing continuous care. Sorry Smooth.

From Teena Marie on Thu, Aug 12, 2010 at 19:24:31 from 174.52.45.85

I'm sorry, SSF.

What can I do?

From leslie peterson on Thu, Aug 12, 2010 at 23:00:39 from 174.52.158.81

Smooth, I just got online and reserved a tent site at Shady Acres RV Park. It cost $24.84 for me to get a place for 4 people, Gary and Ernie are staying with us. Laurie Pope is also reserving a place for her and her family next to us. Check out their website and see what you think.

I need to run with you guys and get parental advice!

Oh Smooth, Sorry about Auntie Ruthie! I have been an 'out of the loop' blogger lately and I've missed so much of your life. . . but you are still running strong, staying positive, and spreading your sunshine where-ever you go! Sure hope I get to see you in Park City!!!! :)

From Smooth on Fri, Aug 13, 2010 at 08:55:28 from 174.23.203.161

Leslie ~ I checked the website. It looks like a nice park. Larry thinks we should reserve a cabin...he doesn't do well sleeping in a tent. Did you reserve it online? Do they have cancellation policy? Thanks!

From leslie peterson on Fri, Aug 13, 2010 at 10:28:03 from 174.52.158.81

I did it online, I don't know about a cancellation policy. The cabins sound like a great option to me.
