Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Did anyone watch that new show, Glee, on Fox 13 at 8 last night?  I was watching it while doing crunches, laughed so hard that I couldn't finish the workout.  Was very tired raking the soil.  Hubby did most of the work.  Will seed the thing on Sat.  Did yoga before going to bed.

Today was supposed to be tempo day (11 mi w/ 10 @ 9:09/mi).   Didn't happen!  Ran 7 instead w/ 5 at mp.  TT: 1:04:29.  AP: 9:12.

Mile 1:  10:25 (everything hurts)

Mile 2 : 9:36 (still trying to warm up)

Mile 3:  8:49 (getting in the groove; feeling knee/quad pain at mile 3.5)

Mile 4:  8:51 (tried different strides, pain still there)

Mile 5:  9:05 (start to worry about Sat. race)

Mile 6:  8:55 (refocus to stay on mp)

Mile 7:  8:42 (so glad it's over!  stretched good, pain eased off)

After this morning's run, I'm rethinking the SF1/2.  I will be happy to run 1/2 of it at mp.

Yeah that tempo run today looks like another mean on like 2 weeks ago. With your race this weekend you should be great. IF all possible I would run as close to your marathon pace for say or just 10 sec off like our training has it this weekend for the 15. Run it well just dont go under MP for the race.:) Your going to do awesome.

I didn't see last nights, but I did see the pilot when it was on several months ago and loved it. I haven't figured out if last night was a replay of the pilot or the season kick-off. Hopefully, I didn't miss anything. Great show.

From Smooth on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 13:25:35 from 71.32.233.94

Thanks Mark for your advice and encouraging words. Schedule calls for 15 @ 9:19 this Sat. (my mp is 9:09) So, just like you suggested. The SF course is an out and back with a hill loop, kinda like Painter's. So it isn't a fast course. I will try to keep the first half under 9:19 and do the last half at mp.

From Smooth on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 13:32:11 from 71.32.233.94

Jun ~ you probably didn't miss anything. Last night was the first time I've seen the show. It's the one where the Glee Club teacher was trying to recruit students...the QB was singing in the locker room showering...ending with the teacher decided to not go for a better paying job when he watched his little group rehearsed on their own. I love that number they sang, Just Believe!

From Cal on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 13:46:43 from 66.133.117.3

Didn't see the show Smooth... but nice job on your workout!

I'm happy that your pain eased off. Hopefully just a temporary issue.

From DonGardinero on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 14:06:38 from 75.162.103.215

Nice run, Smoothie. I love your descriptions of each mile. You must have a great memory. I can't remember one mile to the next. You're going to do great at the race.

From Teena on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 14:12:32 from 67.177.20.13

STINK!!! I was suppose to DVR that!!! STINK!!!!

Anyway ... I felt lousy running today too. In fact, the whole time I was thinking how good it is that I didn't register for SF. My body, mind, lungs, are just not ready. I need a miracle here in the next few days!!! :)

I just love you Smooth!

You ran great today, who cares about the tempo ... you had a killer speedwork out earlier this week.

LLL LLL LLL LLL LLL

Btw, have you thought anymore about speaking to our RS???

From Kathie on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 14:44:04 from 207.155.176.10

Nice run Smooth! I will have to DVR Glee...I think my daughter wanted to watch it.

From LuzyLew on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 14:53:03 from 208.187.197.42

You did great. I think we're all tired come September. I say back off and stay focused on hitting SGM well rested. It's your most important goal anyway. After Hobble Creek, I had to recognize the toll racing vs. training takes on you. Save all the good stuff for Oct. 3. Loved the vision of you laughing so hard at the TV you had to stop doing sit ups. You're so cute. Isn't it great to laugh?

Glee = Smooth. Extra-good ab workout.

From RAD on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 16:50:23 from 76.27.12.70

Nice workout Smooth, we all have our 'no more' days - glad to see you're human and have them too! I think you'll do fine at SF, just do as suggested, run a little slower than MP and use it as a good training run - besides, you can race Onion Days :)

From Bec on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 16:53:14 from 67.177.35.60

I agree with RAD. We have those days. Sometimes it takes 6 miles just to warm up and then we can kick it into momentum. You are the DIE HARD. Great job today, good luck this weekend.

From Smooth on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 17:07:14 from 71.32.233.94

Cal ~ I hope it isn't an injury too. I have been feeling that soreness off and on during this training cycle. I think it will go away with the taper.

Dale ~ When I run alone, I have plenty of time to think about each mile's pain. :)

Teena ~ I think you have someone better to speak than me.

Kathie ~ Glee is a little bit of Highschool Musical, a little bit of Office, it's not too cheesy, the "flash back" moments are hilarious.

Luz ~ You are so right about Sept. It is MONSTER Month. I will be so glad when taper time comes. I need laughter everyday. It's food to my soul.

Paul ~ Is that what belly laughing called? Love it!

Rachel ~ Are you going to do Onion Day 10K? I'm NOT gonna race it. Just doing it to be with Marion, Luz and Kelli and the gang.

Bec ~ I'm NO diehard. Your workouts scares me....totally kills me!!!! Have Fun at RED ROCKS! Can't wait to hear how you like it!

From MrsFIT on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 17:47:03 from 67.182.192.209

I hear ya Smoothie, this run was NOT my favorite either. You'll do just fine on Saturday @ SF, I'm sure of it!

From leslie peterson on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 19:19:40 from 76.23.61.78

You are so funny, I am so impressed with all your runs and your attention to detail, down to the second. I missed that gene!! Have fun at SF with all your running friends and then get a big ol' pina colada and watch Larry do the lawn in a lounge chair!!! :)

From Teena on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 21:27:26 from 67.177.20.13

Smooth -

No one would be a better speaker than you! I know you are so so so busy, so I don't want you to feel obligated ... I just know that you would be incredible!!

No pressure.

I love you!

Hope you are having a wonderful evening.

From Smooth on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 22:26:18 from 71.32.233.94

Kristi ~ Thanks for the vote of confidence. How was Back to School PT night?

Leslie ~ Pina colada sounds good! Poor Larry!

Teena ~ what date and time is that again?

Hope you ate good and going to bed early. LLL LLL LLL LLL

From MarcE on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 22:28:08 from 24.155.140.8

Way to improvise on the workout. Sounds like a great plan for SF 1/2. You'll surprise yourself.

I'm going to Houston this weekend...you've probably been there more times than me. Any "must see" places to visit?

From Smooth on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 22:33:33 from 71.32.233.94

Marc!!!

The Space Center is a must see. I also enjoyed going to the coast for seafood. I'm going there in Nov. It's too hot for me in the summer. Have fun!

From Kimmy on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 23:26:50 from 75.169.125.220

Smooth I can't wait to see you on Saturday. I am hoping with Kathie's lucky birthday coming up we will all win something nice :)

From DonGardinero on Thu, Sep 03, 2009 at 23:51:28 from 152.216.7.5

Smoothie, win me an ipod shuffle this weekend, will ya?

From JulieC on Fri, Sep 04, 2009 at 10:12:17 from 65.100.202.52

they give out such great prizes I should have just entered my name and showed up between shifts, and run the course later. I work this fri and sat : ( Good luck smooth. Your going to do well!!! Dream that "injury" away. Release it to the light, remember? : D

From RAD on Fri, Sep 04, 2009 at 13:55:24 from 76.27.12.70

Smooth, yeah, I love Onion Days...I've done it since my inaugural year of running. This will be my first invited to the RHPC gang party - I love the race AND the prizes AND the parade afterward, just wish there were some fried onions too!

From Smooth on Fri, Sep 04, 2009 at 14:55:01 from 71.36.64.93

Kimmy ~ I am so going to feed off of Kathie's LUCKY NINE this Sat. Yes, we will win something for sure!

Dale ~ I will do my best! Ipod shuffle it is!

Julie ~ Seriously, you can enter your name and I'll get your bib and pick up your prize for you. You are such a great runner, you can run that course in your sleep. Hey, didn't you run Bryce in your sleep? Hope your shifts are nice and easy this weekend.

Oh yeah, I remember... release any aches and pains and injuries to the light while I sleep, if I ever sleep. :)

Rachel ~ Good thinking about the fried onions. Are you going to park at Marion's and walk to the race start? I've never done that race before; is it a small one? See ya Mon. Have fun up at Provo Canyon tomorrow.
