Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

ALL IN FOR BOSTON!!! :) :) :)

Got here at 10 this morning after flying thru the night. Walking in the rain and wind from the Tstation to our hotel with a suitcase and huge duffle bag, on the bridge with traffic across the river to Tudor Wharf was quite an adventrure! We were soaked, cold and tired. But it was lovely to see Lowell and TJ whose room us just across the hall from ours! We should've taken Lowell's advise and taken a taxi instead! The four of us then headed over to the Hynes Convention Center for a bowl of clam chowder and roast beef sandwitch. We got to the Expo when it barely opens! It's already crowded! We gathered up freebies, ate samples, saw Kathryn Switzer, the famous first woman Boston athlete who nearly got pulled off mid race because BAA didn't allow female participant! Now there seem to be twice as many women than men crowding the Expo buying up loads off Boston official wardrobes! :). They had no sz xs women jacket this year, or completely sold out within the first hour! So I just bought a pair of capris. Lowell and TJ bought a gazillion stuff! We went to Legal Seafood at 5 to beat the crowd! hubby and I shared a lobster and steak dinner. Lowell had king crab legs and TJ had fish and chips. The Rick and Dick Hoyt team were at the table next to us! When we left the restaurant there was a long line of people waiting! So glad hubby was smart to get there early! We walked around Charlestown, grabbed desserts. Eric drove in at around 11pm. We hit the sack at 1am. Man, was I tired with no sleep for over 24 hours! Hope the rain and cold wind goes away tomorrow! :)

How exciting.

Hope you were able to get some sleep. It is amazingly awesome that you got to meet Switzer. I'll admit I would be a little star struck to meet her. I often think of her and the women at NYC marathon who refused to take their 10 minute "head start" when I'm in a race and surrounded by women. True American heroes.

Have a great run with your crew in Boston and keep an out for Sister Blister in her yellow shirt and speedy shoes.

That's great to hear!!! I have not even met Smooth in person (only followed her here on the blog) and yet I have still been sick to my stomach worrying about her all afternoon.

From The Quiet Pirate on Mon, Apr 15, 2013 at 17:35:31 from 67.238.139.59

Mack- Smooth is an amazing woman! I was worried too until RAD told me she had found Smooth. Just a heartbreaking situation all around. I had tears of joy watching the live footage earlier in the day, tears of fear and despair in the afternoon, and tears of gratitude and relief in the evening.

Smooth- love you!!!

Your peeps need a race report :) Granted, it's not like you have anything going on right now!!!

From Smooth on Sun, Apr 21, 2013 at 15:51:07 from 65.130.2.239

Thanks everyone for your love and kind concern. You are the reason I haven't quit the FRB. Your friendship and encouragement means the world to me! I have been MIA but haven't forgotten you. I do check on your blogs frequently, just haven't much time to respond and comment. I will sit down and type up a Boston report...just haven't been able to sort out my feelings and emotions over the last week! LOVE TO Y'ALL!!! :)

I was so worried for you and your family when the bombs went off. I can only imagine the feeling and thoughts that are going through your head. You are a "Special" person and you have a wonderful family. Take Care!!!

Well sort of patiently. ;)

Hey, guess what I did today! Ran 6.8 miles!! I haven't done that in 2 years.

I am so glad to hear you weren't hurt. I kept asking Stan if he had heard anything but saw Eric's interview so I knew you were okay. Take care.

From fly on the Wall on Tue, Apr 23, 2013 at 15:05:25 from 168.180.63.58
