Personal:

I'm 64, retired RN, happily married, nana to 14 beautiful grandchildren, mother to 6 children (1 daughter, 5 sons) who are kind, hardworking, caring, wonderful people! Wish they live closer!!!  :)  :)  :)

Picked up running in 2005 at age 50, to stay healthy so I can take care of my husband who had endocarditis resulting in AVR and MVR in 2004, end stage renal failure in 2014, kidney transplant on Dec 30, 2015.  Six months after the kidney transplant, we discovered that he has a rare auto-immune disease that was probably triggered in 2004 with then the undiagnosed infective endocarditis.  The doctors had to make up a name for this rare disease, Monoclono Gammopathy with Renal Significance (MGRS).  It is not curable.  After desperately trying different chemotherapies, the doctor finally found one immuno-therapy, Daratumamab, that works to treat the MGRS.  It is a miracle!!!

Grateful for the gift of life, blessings, dear friends and loved ones!!! Thankful for the ability to move, walk, jog, and yes run!!!!

Love the pics!!!! :)

You all look so cute!!!

Glad you were able to get in a good run. Your recovery miles are faster than mine! :)

I love the Boston pics! I can't wait till I get to be there!

Good 'recovery' run! Pretty darn fast recovering!!! You are amazing!

I ran today looking out for nasty little dogs thanks to your last post! :)

From Smooth on Mon, May 02, 2011 at 16:17:56 from 67.2.95.253

SSF ~ Silly girl! I didn't run 22 speedy miles like you did on Sat. I had nothing to recover from seriously! As a matter of fact, during my run I was thinking how your AP on Sat was my 5 or 10K pace. I wouldn't be able to keep up with you for more than 0.1 of a mile. Love and miss you!

Annie ~ Yes, you will run Boston soon! Glad you didn't encounter any nasty little dogs. Thankfully I didn't either today! It was a beautiful day indeed!

OK, I copied and pasted my Garminconnect workout but it didn't show up in my entry as a *blue clickable link*? Is it not working? What did I do wrong?

From RivertonPaul on Mon, May 02, 2011 at 16:46:43 from 67.42.27.114

Great photos!

From Teena Marie on Mon, May 02, 2011 at 17:00:23 from 67.2.88.232

open garmin connect

go to my connect and then dashboard

(you should now see on the left hand side a list of recent activities)

click on the activity you are interested in

this activity should now have its own page

copy the http: site that is at the very top of your page

now paste this to your blog entry :)

From Smooth on Mon, May 02, 2011 at 17:14:00 from 67.2.95.253

SSF ~ OK, I did all the steps. I got to the Garmin connect with today's activity as its own page. I right click and copied the http. Then on the blog entry I click on the Edit (from the tool bar of my browser) and then right click and paste it onto the entry; but it still shows up in non-link form. Hmmm!!!

From Teena Marie on Mon, May 02, 2011 at 17:17:26 from 67.2.88.232

Are you copying the entire link? That is just weird?

If you write down the link and then type it in manually does it work?

From RAD on Mon, May 02, 2011 at 17:17:41 from 98.202.17.113

I love the Boston Pics! Glad you had a wonderful uplifting Sunday and a great run to top it off today. Someday I will get to be in the Boston pics - I will! The midget will join, yes, the midget will join.

From Smooth on Mon, May 02, 2011 at 17:22:12 from 67.2.95.253

SSF ~ Yes, I copied the entire link. I even started a new entry for tomorrow and it still shows up the same old black http link! Oh Well!

RAD ~ You're not the midget. Didn't you see our emails this morning? You're the Breezer. We're considering the Ogden Trio as : A Wheezer, A Geezer, A Breezer. So take your pick!

Yes, WE NEED YOU, RAD, at Boston 2012!!! :)

So you figured out the garminconnect thing then, huh? :) I LOVE all the pictures!! Thanks for taking the time to post them!! Hopefully you're getting some R & R now that the wedding and farewell is done. :)

From MarcE on Mon, May 02, 2011 at 18:39:12 from 204.16.82.120

Thanks for the pictures. I really need to check out the Garmin Connect that you and Teena are using...Just a word of caution for you -- keep in mind that stalkers can look at those links and know exactly where you run -- I know there aren't any stalkers on this website, but you don't need to be a member to see postings...just something to keep in mind for your safety.

I still need to read your Boston report. Catching up a little at a time!

These pictures make me want to go back to Boston!

From Markir on Mon, May 02, 2011 at 19:11:03 from 98.202.116.134

Boston looks like so much fun, but I don't think I will ever make it. I think I am through with marathons after UVM. It is too much running for me. And those tired legs mean I had a difficult run the week before, that I am still trying to recover from. We ran the first 16 of the course and it took the wind right out of my sails. I doubt I will do the AF half because I think that is the same weekend as my kids swim meet in Cottonwood Heights. Sounds like a good one though. I am really worried about the hills in UVM. Hills just kill me and I didn't realize there were so many. Any suggestions?

From Markir on Mon, May 02, 2011 at 19:18:16 from 98.202.116.134

oh yeah, I never did tell you. We finally got a Garmin 310XT. We plan to do some triathlons after UVM and so we needed something for multi sport. It is great. The heart moniter is a pain so I make Marshall wear that, but i love guaging my pace; at least when I feel good.

From Doone on Mon, May 02, 2011 at 19:40:33 from 184.10.158.177

LOVE LOVE LOVE the photos!!!! That was a great weekend. I am a little biased but I do think Rhett and I make a cute couple as do the rest of the couples that I have met!!!

Your grandbaby's picture is to die for. What a cutie. I have a LONG time until I am a grandma but I know I am going to love it!!

You are the best.

Cute pictures. It looks like you had a fun time.

From Smooth on Tue, May 03, 2011 at 14:23:22 from 67.2.95.253

Brooke ~ I registered for a garmin connect account but haven't been able to copy and paste the link of the day's run onto the blog entry. O well!

I am enjoying a few days of non scheduled events before the month gets busy again. Thanks! Can't wait to see you again, may be in Ogden!

Kathie ~ I had to wait till Jeff gets back from his honeymoon to upload the pics from my camera. There was a file, a video clip of you running on Boylston. But Larry forgot to turn off the camera after you ran past so it was filled video of the sky, the asphalt, the telephone pole and cheering noises. Anyway, that file was *corrcupted* therefore I could not upload the Boston pix. Jeff figured out how to do it and took him almost an hour. Therefore these pics are 2 weeks late! :) Almost all the indoor night pix (from Legal Seafood) were blurry and in orange hue. We are terrible at picture taking.

Marc ~ That is a good word of caution. I never thought of that. So may be it's a good thing that it doesn't show up as *clickable link*. I think I will only post the long runs because I almost always run with someone on those runs. THANKS! Happy to hear that you had a nice service and fun filled birthday! :)

Mark ~ So WHEN are you going to run Boston again? It will be super super super fun with you there! :)

Kirsten ~ I am so excited that you and Marshall are doing triathlons after UVM. That is so fun!!! Cycling and swimming along with running is so good for your body overall. Very cool that you got a 310XT. AWESOME!

As for hills on UVM and hill running. My humble opinion is that you are doing the right thing to preview the first 16 miles of the course so they don't come as a surprise. I ran UVM last year with the start a little closer to the Canyon whereas this year it is a little further up in Wahlsburg. I remember the first major hill comes at mile 8 or 9 just before the dam then lots of downhill till we hit Bridal Veil Falls for another mile of uphill. Then the rest are downhill to the mouth of the canyon. The last 10K was on University Ave gentle downgrade with two small inclines, one by the Country Club and the other at the highway overpass. This year, they eliminated the overpass by finishing at the Tabernacle.

So, I think the hills are not as bad as TOU which you ran last Sept. Do not fear hills. They are your friends. When running uphills go to your arms to distribute the workload. When you pump your arms, your legs will follow; and it encourages lifting and driving the knees up. Imagine yourself gliding with a pulley pulling you up and over the hill. Keep the effort steady. I always have a mantra in my head while I chug along up the hill like "I eat hills for breakfast!" or "Hills are my friends!" On the downhill take advantage of the gravity by leaning slightly forward at the ankle like a skier, so your torso is perpendicular to the slant grade of the hill. Keep your hands lower and closer to your hips to maintain balance. Keep your strides short and quick. Running downhill is all about not braking, like a controlled fall. NO slapping of feet.

Practice running hills for the next 4-5 weeks and you will kick some major trash at UVM. Run up to Alpine or AF Canyon or Suncrest and back down to your house. I prefer hilly routes over hill repeats. Marshall might have other ideas and suggestions. You are doing GREAT! So much of running is mental. I admire you getting your runs and training done with your busy family and kids! GOOD LUCK!!! We need to do some long runs together!

Doone ~ You and Rhett sure made Boston special! Can't wait to see you at UVM.

Nancy ~ Boston was very FUN. My hubby keeps bugging me to book the hotel room for next year already. He loves going to Boston and he's not a runner! :)

Rhett and Doone are CUTE, but so are you and Larry!
