Running Accomplishments:

Started  running in 05

Qualified for Boston May 18th at Cleveland. 312:05

Here are my PB's

Marathon 309:48  (Detroit 08)

Boston marathon 314

Half 121:52 July 09 - Running from Cancer Tecumseh

10 mile run 102:06 / 59:09 TM -09

10k - 35:29 (TM)  36:46 won the race outright, Sept 08

5k - 16:59 August 09

Short-Term Running Goals:

Under 3 hours for a marathon.  This spring however I want to break 310 and qualify for Boston, I only need 315.  DID IT!! 312:05 - 309:48

Run a solid Boston Marathon and shoot for sub 3 fall 09, eventually want to run under 2:50

I want to break 36 mins in a 10 k race.

I want to break 17 mins in a 5 k if not lower.

Basically I want to see how far I can actually go in running, who knows.

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to run as long as I can, it is life fuel.  I am a Chiropractor and it is a good example for my pts and also my family who runs also.

Most importantly I want to be the best I can be to my family.

And yes run sub 3 fall 09.  run 103 at the CRIM, break 36 for a 10k race, break 17 for a 5k.  Oh ya, run a half one of these days and break 124. Did it 121 this summer

Personal:

Married with 3 children.  5 year old son named Julian, 2 year old Sadie and Elliot who is 7 months.  Life is busy but fun and I believe we are living it to the fullest, running helps me do this.

Live in Windsor Ontario, love to vacation in our condo in Naples Florida.

My wife and I are both Chiropractors

26.71 on the garmin, lots of turns and I studied the course.  Some people ran almost 2km more on thier garmin's.  327:14.  At 26.2 I was 323:01, I was a bit dissapointed so I had no desire to sprint in to the finish.

3 @ 22:17 - crazy start, so many people to deal with, 15,000 runners but Chicago was not a problem.  The first 2 miles were quite stressful.

3@ 21:26 - felt good, settled in.

3@ 21:39 - although lots of coble stone etc, I thought at this pnt that I better ease a bit and settle in for awhile.  But of course as things were looking good I started to deal with my right side stitch.  It was not like Dublin at all but I had to keep blowing out quick breaths to get rid of it.

3@ 21:16 - Obviously 7:05 pace was pretty good but I don't remember much.  I do remember saying to myself after I left the 315 balloons (pace team) that maybe this is the day.  It was weird because I really had a gut feeling that I would not run under 315 today but at the same time I was sure at this pnt I would accomplish it.  I do remember the wind was picking up but it was very nice for temp.

3@ 22:16 - 7:24, 15 miles is where the pace team was catching me and instead of running my own race I let it bother me and started to panic.  I need to learn that I could have set back and tried to regain my composure but I stressed and I think at the end of 15 I finally had to stop.

***  Instead of thinking I am done for running under 315, I need to be more aware that I was well under pace and maybe a quick 1 min walk and a few mins of regaining pace could have helped me but I started to panic and had many walk breaks because of the pain in my side.  There is nothing more frustrating than this during a marathon because your legs are ok but the stitch is unbareable.

3@ 24:37 - can't recall how many walk breaks but at the end of this split I knew I had to run the last 8 miles in 1 hour to make it, which is a cake walk on a regular lunch day but not with a stitch.  I made the best of it and then set my goals on finishing.

I am proud of the last 3-4 miles because I had to run huntched over while breathing out, I decided to not walk anylonger and just get it done, no idea of the pace but it seemed like I was running like a turtle.  The good thing is I did not sprint or even try to run fast for the last mile as I knew it would only make me more sore for the rest of Rome so I jogged in to the finish.  I think 327 is respectable considering the pain I was in for the last half.

I need to figure out this stitch thing because I don't know what I am capable of until I run a marthon without it.

Todd..

I was happy to read your blog . I can only dream of finishing under 330 as that would qualify me. I have decided that I will run the Ottawa city marathon on May 25...interested on pacing me. LOL. Anyway, congratulations and enjoy the rest of the week in Rome. Talk to you next week.

.......Brian.

That is pretty cool that you ran in Rome! Was that the main reason for the trip or just a little side adventure?

Good race, way to hang in there at the end. My friend told me at the Rome Marathon a few years ago they messed up and served sparkling water (ie carbonated) on the course. I assume this didn't happen to you. Sounds like a great adventure, nice work.

Thanks James, the marathon was a bonus, I told my wife that I would not fuss a bit, deep down I wanted to run 310-315 but the course was tough with the cobblestone and extra turns.

Thanks for the commment, talk to you soon.

Thanks chad.

No sparkling water but lots of crazy food on the run that I saw. Its fun traveling and running a marathon, I hope we can do it every year but its hard with the kids. First vacation without the kids. Take care
