Foot specialist said they didn't see an actual fracture, but definitely highlighted to me the "stress reaction" and warned of an impending fracture...I got to see the MRI and, yeah, 3rd metatarsal looks jacked up compared to the others.  All the other stuff mentioned to me on the phone was likely the normal wear and tear of being a runner.  I'd bet we all probably have jacked up tendons & ligaments if you look closely.

Anyway, their guesstimate was 4 more weeks and they put me in a boot.  It could definitely be worse.  Cleared me to elliptical, bike, swim etc.  Whether I get off my lazy ass and make myself do something is another story...

A boot? Eegads, man, that sounds worse than prison. But a 4 week sentence sounds pretty light. Get off your tail or you'll regret it. Elliptihell away! Or swim, or both. Glad you learned the actual story and not some tech's guess of what the results are. Too funny about normal wear and tear. I bet you're exactly right. And I think your 50 miler jacked your feet up even more than normal and they still haven't recovered. But I'm no doctor.

Does sound like a sentencing. 4 weeks and the boot! Hey not having a fracture is very positive. Joe- Thanks for reminding me how jacked up I am. Perhaps you should take advantage of the rest and forget the elliptical for another week. 2 cents.

Dude. Bad news, but could've been much worse. Have you come up with some good responses to the question you are about to get all the time - "Hey, why are you wearing a boot?"

Um, yeah, it's a court ordered boot. Apparently, I kick too much ---.

You know that thing at the bowling alley, where the balls come back? Well, never put your foot in there.

I am going bionic, one limb at a time.

A stress reaction is definitely better than a fracture, which could be twice as long. Glad you got some answers. Rest easy, Joe.

If you lived in the mountains, you could just put on your ski boots for 4 weeks and call it "recovery".

I think you are right about the wear and tear. I imagine a MRI of any part of my lower body would have looked pretty bad a year ago. Hope you heal up quick. Look on the bright side - you'll be back at full strength for the heat of summer!
