58F.  Great 5k weather, almost no wind.  Pretty good race, better than I thought I would run.  I'm in that post-marathon timeframe where you're not quite back yet, so I would have been happy with anything sub-19.

I started out in 10th or so, and moved up to 3rd by the end of mile 1, which I ran in 6:03.  The 2 leaders then starting coming back to be and I passed the 2nd place guy around 1.3 miles, which energized me.  Hit mile 2 in 5:55, putting me even with the leader who is a senior in high school this year.  He beat me last year in the final mile, and did it to me again!  I couldn't hang, and suffered through a 6:07 in mile 3, about 5 sec back.  I could really feel the lack of fitness...it'll come back though.  22 seconds for the last .06 miles, so the course was actually short this year.  I much prefer that to the long course from last year!  So, I won't count a PR, but I was a lot closer than I thought I would be.  Once I start doing workouts and recover the rest of the way from Boston, I should be able to start working on sub-18.  I really think I'll get there this year.

This is great, Joe. This is where you are starting, and you can really make improvements from here. Give the 4 x 1 mile off 90 seconds a try when you are a bit deeper into training. Bam recommended that one and it was a perception changer for me. Again, I think this is very solid given where you are.

Nicely done Joe. As the boy said, 'this is where you are starting, and you can really make improvements from here.'

Now, to celebrate, go have yourself a few scoops; only a few mind you - you don't want a hangover tomorrow:)

Its tough to beat high-schoolers in a 5K!

Good race, and like several have said above, if this is where you are starting post-marathon, you have the ability to get down to the 17s.

Yes!! Great race, Joe!

Jason - yeah, that little 4x1 gem is on the schedule down the road. still in basebuilding for now.

Bam - takin' it easy tonight...plus there are only 3 beers in the fridge

allie - thanks!

Jake - definitely a little ahead of last year, which is a good thing.

thanks Bonnie!

Nice race Joe! I think you'd have been right on your PR if the distance were right. With a little more recovery and then 5K training you'll drop 18 easily!

Im on the road again Joe- just catching up again. Nice race! Impressive so close to Boston and you will crush 18 this year!

Way to go, Joe!!! You are too speedy these days, even so soon after the marathon.

Love the "unofficial" PR. It wasn't really applies to apples between you and the HS kid, he didn't run Boston. Any other time you take it.
