AM:  49F.  14 @ 7:07 AP.  Had today circled for a big workout thanks to the front that came through.  7 warmup miles, then 4 x 1.5 @ LT, with quarter mile recoveries.  I averaged 9:13 (6:09 pace) for the 1.5's and the recoveries were 2:05-2:10.  Splits were 9:18, 9:12, 9:12, 9:10.  I didn't leave any gas in the tank today, ran my eyeballs out.  It'll be 6 months before we see 40's again so why hold back?  Anyway, I've run similar workouts faster before but given the direction my training has taken (lots of 8-minute miles) this was very solid.  And it was good to get in a lung-burning, snot-producing, grunting, drooling, wheezing, coughing, hallucination-inducing effort again...last one was probably Cowtown.

PM:  71F.  4 @ 8:26 AP.

Am I the only one who gets a snotty nose from a good, hard effort? I assumed it was universal...

From allie on Wed, Apr 29, 2015 at 08:42:25 from 24.99.46.55

i'm just lying. there is a reason why i wear gloves when i race.

They're like 2 little kleenexes you never have to throw away!

I get a mucus buildup after really hard/long efforts. Been known to leave some epic post-workout spit wads on the tempo loop.

Gloves are great because like jeans, they wash themselves.

Phew. I get pretty ugly sometimes and think, man, if I were running this with someone on the blog they would thing I was some uncivilized, non-gentlemanly jogger!

I am a pretty heavy spitter/snotter. I do it when things get tough. Just a habit. I have been known to snot rocket cars that get too close to me too.

Strong workout, Joe. That's a workout I never run, but it's a really good one. Very nice progression too.

Good healthy snot discussion everyone, thanks. It goes on gloves, streets, cars, or eventually just dries on your upper lip...there is no wrong answer.
