75F, 84%. I did my 200s again today - drove to the track, couple miles warmup, then 3 x (6 x 200 on/off).  I didn't do the last rep on the last set, and actullay kind of phoned in the two prior to that.  I'd even ambitiously planned a 1200m @ vo2 after the 200s, but there was no way....I was toast.  I think I'm running the 200s too fast.  I'm not fit right now, and it's too hot to go my old paces anyway.  I just need to make sure I'm getting in full workouts, even if they are slow, and it'll come back by this fall.

Like you, I'm just trying to get through the summer. Back in April and May, I was disappointed by my times and paces. But now, I’m playing the hand I am dealt, and running on feel. That’s why my track workouts are effort- based. I don’t want to beat myself up for not getting the times I had in January. Good job fighting the elements, and running through the soup today.

Next summer I'm going back to cycling :-)

I think we're all beating ourselves up and expecting too much right now. Let's make a pact to continue to encourage each other and get through this!

I'm really looking forward to running in Texas... in JANUARY next year!

Okay, I'll make the pact. But when autumn comes back around, I plan on stopping with the encouragement. At that point, we begin the “ridicule” and “mockery” phase. Agreed?

AGREED!!!

Tom - yeah, I need to put the watch in the drawer and leave it there until October.

IJR - as long as I can go back to mocking everyone, as Tom said, then I agree.

Jake - the half is right in the 2-week window of comfortable running weather that Houston has every year. Just don't go the other 50 weeks.

Good to know they get a nice 2 week stretch. Except for this past year when it poured rain on raceday.

I was trying to repress that memory...thanks a lot Jake

You cannot run fast with a phone, but if you say it works, I will try it. Hey remember all those studies that say heat training translates into faster running in cool weather.

I did not say I bought it, but thought it might make you feel better. Nice running in that fun weather you got!

You're expecting too much in the temps you're running in. In a month or two, life will be much easier!

From seeaprilrun on Wed, Aug 07, 2013 at 21:29:42 from 205.172.12.210

Just hang in there and go off of effort, can't force fitness and no sense in wasting yourself on a workout trying to run a certain time. It's hot and muggy right now, your body will feel better soon and speed up when it is ready.
