AM:  75F, 82%.  8.5 miles total.  Today was a workout day, 6 x 800, 400m recoveries.  On my warmup, which is just through nice, normal suburban neighborhoods, a lady slows down in her car next to me and yells, "Wooooo, shirtless!!"  Then as she was driving off, a large dragonfly whacked me in the face.  I'm still trying to process what this all means.

On to the workout...  I wanted to hit goal 5k pace, which was 2:52.  I averaged 2:53.3.  Pretty close, considering the dew point was about 69 (1 degree shy of The Death Zone) it was actually a really good workout.  Splits were 2:54.7, 53.3, 54.4, 54.5, 53.5, 49.2.

The collection of gnats on my stomach was 20% larger than yesterday's.

PM:  4.5 on the TM.  Same routine: 2 miles slow, then start playing with the buttons.  Today it was a couple quarter miles @ MP, then 4 x 45 sec @ 1-mile GP.

This is a lot of information to sort through. She was driving her car shirtless? What kind of neighborhood IS that, bro?

I always try to identify constellations in the stomach gnat corpses.

Excellent workout. How fast are the 400 recoveries? Your "The Death Zone" = My "Bonus Gravity."

All excellent questions. It was dark and I couldn't really see the lady...I guess it might've even been a dude with a high-pitched voice for all I know. But I assume she was referring to me. The 400s were 2:10-2:15...slow, but fast enough to be considered "active recoveries" in my book. Finally, I like your attitude about "bonus gravity." Why can't I look at the bright side of things like that?

Way to close with your fastest rep! Always nice when you do it that way and not the other way around.

I typed in "shirtless dragonfly" on Google and the first site was to an ebay auction for some gay art. Take it for what it's worth.

Great. Fantastic. Thanks. Very helpful.

Ha ha ha.... I just had a great laugh reading these comments. Nice workout.

You are locked in on these workouts!

"It's not the heat, it's the humidity.""No it's not; it's the dew point!" You have been closing these workouts really strong. Way to put a little mustard on that last repeat.

Impressive Joe. That close to the death zone and you still nailed it. Good way to start the summer workouts. Maybe you won't be stuck on the treadmill after all.

Woooo, shortsless!

From SlowJoe on Wed, Jun 04, 2014 at 14:06:07 from 168.215.171.129

Maybe that's why I was getting weird looks...are you supposed to wear shorts when you run?

From Tracy on Sat, Jun 07, 2014 at 19:42:49 from 50.103.234.158

Leave it to Burt to cross the line. I laughed out loud.

I think you're supposed to wear shorts down to your knees when you run. At least that's what I learned from Burt's blog.

From Burt on Sat, Jun 07, 2014 at 20:04:17 from 174.26.201.70

Those shorts used to be my son's, but he didn't like them. I like them for their deep pockets :)
