36F, SE 17-23 mph, raining.  7:37 AP.  Not quite cold enough for snow, so I got the stinging needle rain again.  Stepped in a bunch of puddles, shoes came untied twice, gloves soaked by mile 3.  Of course the wind was not from a cardinal direction so no crosswind legs....I pretty much only finished the run out of spite (learned it from Tracy).  I guess it was character building, at least.

Sounds like fun. :-) I am thinking of posting a youtube video on my method of never having shoes come untied again. In all the years of running when I do this my shoes have never come untied. It even works for my son's shoes. It's really so simple. Once the shoes laces are tied take the loops and excess and put them under the crossed strings on the shoe. I have found that it is the flapping of the laces that causes them to come untied. So by sticking the excess under the tight laces it eliminates the flopping around, and therefore, shoes coming untied. Just a little tidbit. :-)

Burrr...that's all I have to say about that!

DH, Can you create an App to teach people how to do that? If so, you might get rich!

From SlowJoe on Wed, Feb 20, 2013 at 10:12:07 from 155.219.241.10

dh - see, I had been having some success double knotting, but something about when it's wet outside makes them still come untied. Your way sounds way better, especially since they'd be easier to untie. You've sold me.

IJR - too late, secret's out!

I've been tying my laces like that since I started running @ 3 years ago. I always thought "Why do they sell shoes with such long laces? I better tuck these away somewhere." So, now it is "the derhammer knot?" Well, I had my chance for a patent, I guess.

p.s. SlowJoe - 1, Stinging rain - 0.

SlowJoe - 0, Shoe Laces - 2.

Well done for battling through the inclement weather, Joe.

I've just sent Grace out to athletics with her laces tied in the DH style:) Result.

Tom - It's not too late. You know, Albert Einstein worked in a patent office. Why do you think you never hear about Smith's Theory of Relativity?

Bam - I'm going to ask you to cease and desist on tying any shoes like that until I can work out the International patent pending issues.

From Bam on Wed, Feb 20, 2013 at 12:57:03 from 89.126.28.24

"Cease and desist" - I'm looking over my shoulder and I'm trying to work out whether to put my hands up or hit the deck:)

I forgot the mention patent pending part. :-)

From Matt Schreiber on Wed, Feb 20, 2013 at 17:13:20 from 66.17.111.44

It was "character building"... There's always a bright side. Way to get out there in wretched conditions.

Sounds like a great day of running!

Great job, Joe! The Derhammer not is a keeper. I'm trying it today...

Gotta love spiteful running!
