Upper 30s, low wind (perfect for the long tempo I had planned).  But, I got this achilles thing.  I wanted to see if it got worse or better while running.  It mostly stayed the same, and if anything, got a little better -- just a dull ache.  I just took short strides and kept it easy, 8:16 AP.  Of course, I also had an obscene amount of anti-inflammatories in my system.  The main body of the tendon is not sore at all, any soreness I can actually touch is at the bottom of the calf.  Reason for hope?

This week will be more runs just like this (relative rest) and hopefully I can return to some better training next week since I'm supposed to be in peak training for OKC right now....

You won't lose your fitness in one week. I think it's smart that you're taking a wait-and-see attitude.

Roll it out, if you can. I have that problem a lot. In fact, just yesterday I was at the podiatrist getting fitted for some new orthotics and he told me I have the tightest Achilles tendons he's ever seen. Try and stretch them out more. I'm going to do it more.

Smart to take it easy. I know you don't need someone to tell you it is not wise to load up on NSAID's before you run, so I won't. :-)

I was out for 10 days last year before the Austin Marathon - cross training during that time saved me.

I want to add that I have had this pain before, too, and I was able to run through it. I kept training and it went away after a while. So one never knows how one's body will respond. Keep taking it easy and going by feel - non-medicated feel, though.

Tracy - yeah i read enough stuff on the internet to scare me...not enough to stop running on it, but close.

Rye - I prefer the term pill-junkie.

Thanks Dale, haven't tried rolling it out yet; seems like that would be a good way to stretch it without aggravating it.

April - I was reading Fox in Sox every night to my daughter at the time I signed up for FRB. Speedy Joe was not mentioned.

DH - I have a nsaid-weaning process (patent pending) that's worked in the past...not the textbook way to fix things, but it's kept me going while I slowly heal. Good to hear you were able to run through it; I'm prepared to shut it down if it starts getting worse.

Mine gets better and worse all the time, but it is the one thing that will sideline me if anything ever does. So I guess you could say I respect it but to this point have not allowed it to dictate my workouts. I'm sure there's a better approach out there than mine.
