Start 58F, wind NW 12 mph.  Finish 58F, wind N 20-25 mph.  Didn't quite get the low temperatures forecasted but still pretty nice.  Going out I ran north, so there was a small quartering headwind on the way out, but by the time I turned around I had a big direct tailwind.  So kind of an aided course overall; guess I gamed it nicely today.

I wanted to keep the run no faster than GMP, but that tailwind on the way back home was just carrying me along and I couldn't let it go to waste.  Still held back some though, I think this will be a fast recovery.

Splits were 8:18, 8:01, 8:13, 8:19, 8:14, 8:08, 8:06, 8:12, 8:00, 7:55, 7:57, 7:51, 7:43, 7:43, 7:43, 7:45, 7:35, 7:25, 7:18, 7:12, 6:59.   AP 7:50.

I didn't even feel my achilles (unless I tried) until mile 9 or 10, then it started tugging on the uphills.  It stayed at a dull ache most of the rest of the way.  I think I must be favoring it a bit when I run because I was having some weird aches and pains on the left (bad) side: hip flexor, groin, glute.  After the run, I made an ice bath -- cold water plus whatever ice we had.  That was an experience.  I think it helped though.

Wow...that looks like a great run to me!

Hold it together til OKC...!

3 weeks. You can make it.

Great miles! I think you said this was your last long run before OKC, right?

From seeaprilrun on Mon, Apr 11, 2011 at 19:51:35 from 174.70.177.86

Nice long run! Is this the last big one before Oklahoma City? I'm willing to bank that during the taper the achilles issue works itself out and you come roaring in for a good race. You are in awesome shape right now.

You are looking really good, glad you had reasonable temperatures for the run. I agree with April, achilles probably just needs rest.

Good job - only 19 days until the big day!

IJR - still hanging on for now

Thanks Tracy, gonna do 18 this weekend, then start to taper off.

April - yeah I'm counting on the taper to heal up some small stuff

Flat, DH - thanks, I think I'll make it...

Wind or no wind, that is an awesome run, strong finish! For what it is worth, especially with the Achilles issue ... I would bag the 18 for Saturday, maybe 13 with last 6 to 10 at MP, depending on how it feels. I think you would benefit from a little more taper than adding another long run, as it looks like you already got some really good ones in. Good Luck!

Thanks JG. I actually have a run like the one you are describing planned for next week, and I am kicking around the idea of snipping a few miles from the LR this weekend. Appreciate the advice!

Awesome job man!!! I'd say you're ready to rock and or roll. Tailwinds sure are nice, but I also like some headwind to help keep me cool. I always over-heat.
