Computer said 60F, wind S 21-28 mph as I left to go run this morning...felt about right.  We were overdue for the stupid wind to come back.  Plan was 5 easy then 6 @ MP (target 7:35), but the conditions made doing any specific pace work kinda pointless.  MP was about a 6:45 effort going south and 8:00 effort going north.  So let's just say I ran 11 miles and moved my feet a little faster for the last 6.

7:59 AP overall.

1 weird thing happened - on the way back I was running on a sidewalk, approaching the driveway of an apartment complex.  Someone was driving out of the complex, and I made sure I had eye contact with him.  Then, looking at me the whole time, he continues out of the driveway and stops right in the middle of the sidewalk and I had to come to a quick stop to avoid running into the side of his truck.  Then he continues to just stare at me as if to say, "yep, that just happened...what now?"  A younger slowjoe would not have let it go so easily but I just trotted around and continued on my way.

SlowJoe versus a truck. Who will win?

Are you saying that age makes us wiser? Must be a mature father! Keep a rock in your hand. Works for dogs...probably would work for a dead beat like the one you crossed this morning.

What a jerk! It would have been hard not to at least spout off a few choice words.

And yeah, that south wind is out in full force today. I guess it's something to get used to before April marathons which promise to be windy in the midwest.

That's insane. What is wrong with people? The same thing happened to me at the park on Saturday. It wasn't quite as overt, but still someone sped right in front of me and was looking at me the entire time. Not to mention, I was on a jogging trail. Weird!

I think there is a residual but significant element of antipathy out there against runners. Possibly getting worse because of all the people that are running now. Good job not reacting, I probably would have.

Tracy - slowjoe, definitely slowjoe

Rye - figures, the one day I don't run with rocks in my hands.

April - yeah I pretty much thought "oklahoma city preview" as I was running this morning.

Danielle - not much of a running town I think. People here wonder why anyone would be running when they could be hunting!

Flat - I think this guy was on his way to an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet

What a creep. I've had many incidents like that.

Normally I run away from town on county roads...now I remember why!

April and Mark know that I've been in situations like this many times, and I know how to handle them with grace and dignity:

Pretty hilarious, Burt. Only you...

Glad that one ended well Burt, well done!

It's too bad everyone in TX has a gun in their glove box. The big story in Abilene this past week was a road rage battle between 2 guys - they both stopped, got out, pulled their respective guns out (everyone here has them) and one of them got a bullet to the face. I guess I've been extra courteous lately!

From Burt on Fri, Feb 18, 2011 at 14:36:08 from 206.19.214.144

It's hard to argue with a bullet in your face. Unless you're trying to prove how painful it is. Then it's hard not to argue with a bullet in your face.

Well said.

Haha out here in the sticks in Kansas we all have guns too.
