75F, 79%.  7:25 AP.  Another...sigh...3 days of no running.  So I put on the fast shoes, took a caffeine pill to see if I could at least artificially get the legs moving faster.  Got my butt up (somewhat) early to take advantage of a decent running day (considering it's mid-July in south central Texas).

7 easy then 3 tempo @ 6:41 AP (6:48, 6:48, 6:27).  Actually, better than I expected and probably better than I deserved.  It would have been faster but my leg muscles have attrited "due to a period of extreme inactivity."  It's the summer of Joe!

"Summer of Joe"? Did we vote on this? Nice Tempo, Joe.

Great tempo Joe. Pretty impressive if you ask me.

I noticed you've put a few miles on a couple different Saucony racing shoes. My "fast" shoes are my Mirages. What do you think of the A5 vs the Fastwitch? I was ironically thinking today that I need to buy a pair of lighter racing shoes.

Tom - we should've had a vote...

Matt - I think the fastwitch will be a little lighter than the mirage, and the a5 will definitely be lighter than both. I had been running in the kinvaras for awhile before I started running in the type A, and I needed an adjustment period, for sure. Fastwitch will probably be better for distance runs, initially, without much adjustment (if any). If you want a good 5k shoe right away, a5 would be awesome. Just remember to ease into them slowly. Eventually I started running marathons in them, but that took awhile. There's just so much less cushioning that you will find some soreness as you adjust. I don't think you can go wrong either way though.

Thanks Joe. I was kinda hoping for a "go buy this shoe" :) If only it were that simple.. I think long term it'd be good for me to start easing into an A5 and maybe put a couple short races in them this year. I don't mind the Mirages a bit, but at the same time I wasn't "minding" the 11oz Kayanos for quite some time..

Ha ha. I missed the Seinfeld reference. Chuck and I just started to watch reruns again. It's funny all over again.
