73F, S 12 mph.  Hot one - we reached 100 in some parts of town yesterday so I guess it couldn't quite cool off from that overnight.

The plan is 20% fewer miles this week.  AP 8:04 today.  I was reading some of the Boston race reports from the blog's elite and it was interesting to me that a couple mentioned the "heat" (temps in the low 50s) being a factor.  Guess it's all relative.  If I get those kind of temperatures at OKC, I will sacrifice a goat on the altar of the god of running weather in appreciation of his mercy.

Maybe you should sacrifice the goat before the race in hopes that the gods will have mercy on you.

I have to agree with you on the temps. 50's sounds great to me. The fastest marathon ever was run in those temps, so can't imagine anyone complaining about 50's.

You may get into some trouble with PETA with the blood sacrifice.

The most common complaint I heard was that with the tailwind there was no wind-in-the-face cooling effect. The smart runners started dousing with water early, despite the low temperatures. I agree though, it is hard to feel too sorry for them when we are already running in the 70s every morning.

Not a bad idea, Tracy.

DH - don't think they were complaining, just mentioned it as a factor which kind of confirmed my belief that the optimal temp is around 40 for a marathon

Rye - I guess burning the goat is out of the question?

Flat - yeah, I saw the same...those annoying tailwinds!

I must agree. 50 with a tailwind? Sounds good to me! 30 with a tailwind...even better!
