72F, low wind.  Another really nice morning.  7:50 AP.

I tested out the Kinvaras today - I'm trying to find a lightweight, every day shoe in which I can eventually run a marathon; I'd read nothing but good things about this shoe (and derhammer obviously is a fan) so I tried em (father's day present!) and I was pretty happy with them.  Weight-wise, they are only supposed to be worth 5 sec/mile if you believe the rule-of-thumb that's out there.  Seems like they will be good for a lot more than that (I kept looking at my watch expecting the normal 8:00-8:15 and seeing 7:40s), but I'm guessing a lot of that is mental -- kinda felt like I was just gliding along.  Another factor might have been the easier "cardio recovery" Insanity workout last night, which isn't as exhausting.  Comfort-wise, they felt as nice as my trainers.  I'll wait a few days and see if I get the achilles soreness (it has taken awhile to show up when I've run in flats before) then try again.

I'm obviously a big fan, but I also have to watch my achilles all the time. I think your approach is good, and I don't think the faster pace is your imagination.

Sweet Fathers Day gift!!

Hmmmm ... I might have to try a pair! I definitely noticed a speed difference when I got my Brooks ST-6 racers this Spring, but the tread is wearing down so fast, I have to save them for races. For an inexpensive sport, running sure gets expensive when you run a lot of miles & races!!

I agree with Flat...the faster pace has nothing to do with the shoes in your case...quit trying to make excuses and just admit how fast you're getting :-)

I have found I run faster in these shoes, too. They definitely help me find a more efficient stride and the energy return is very good as well. I hope they work out for you over the long term. These shoes have also been the best wearing shoes that I have owned.

I have thought about trying those. I am still stuck in the Nike lunar line...they have some good lightweight shoes. I like the lunarfly. I think the feeling of lightness does make a difference. When I wear heavier running shoes they feel like bricks.

Flat - whether it's mental or physical, I like it!

JG - I know, I never thought when I started that I would be blowing through 2 pairs of shoes every 4 months.

IJR - it's the shoes, I know it!

DH - thanks, yeah so far no issues and the felt great. I'll hopefully attempt a long run within a few weeks.

April - yeah putting on the trainers this morning I had that brick-like feeling. I will have to look into the lunarfly if these don't work out.
