58F, low north wind.  5 @ 8:16 AP.  Just a short run in the hopes that I can eke out a decent time in the 5K tomorrow morning.  The weather should be nice, not windy like my PR a couple months ago.  I wish I was feeling faster though; my PR was 6:17/mile (per Garmin) which felt like an all-out sprint yesterday.  We'll see, who knows....

I'm dealing with a bit of metatarsalgia right now which is a bit of pain on the ball of my left foot, near the base of the middle toe.  It's not a show stopper at this point but it's making me re-think wearing flats for the race, which would probably take PR out of the picture.  Smart money says I'll wear the flats anyway.

I say just take 5 ibuprofen and just run....! That's the advice my knee doctor gave me! It worked for 21.5 miles and then I think the ibuprofen wore off :( Seems the weather will be perfect if it's like here!

Oh...BTW...Are you wearing the orange shirt?

From Burt on Fri, May 13, 2011 at 10:51:22 from 72.223.90.79

Good luck!

My race pace always feels like an all-out sprint in training ... something about the power of 'race' day! That is a bummer about your foot, hope it goes away before it gets worse! Just triple the length of your stride, & you will have 1/3 as many foot strikes! :) Good Luck!!

IJR - Maybe you should have taken 5 more at the 18 mile mark!

JG,

Next time that's what I'm going to do...!

From DaleG on Fri, May 13, 2011 at 12:20:09 from 174.52.230.9

I'm dealing with that same pain and it a real...pain. This morning, I was walking around barefoot and I stepped on a tiny little plastic toy key that goes to one of my daughter's toys and that sore spot on my foot was right where I stepped onto it. Oh MAN that hurt. It made me drop to the floor, literally!!! Still hurts.

Good luck at the 5k tomorrow

IJR - yep, ibuprofen and orange shirt...check

Thanks Burt, good luck on your race too.

JG - sounds like a recipe for success -- you really have all the tricks, don't you?

DG - ouch! I know that must've hurt. I stuck an O-shaped callous pad a bit behind where it actually hurts (basically put it in the middle of the ball of my foot) to take some pressure off the metatarsal head. Seems to actually help a little so far, but I'll let you know how it went when I run on Saturday.

Now I know you're going to PR...! BTW...Can I borrow that orange shirt for my next race?
