2 days later, and still pretty sore.  My quads were obliterated.  Next in line in order of soreness are the hip flexors, groin for some reason, hammys and shins.  Guess I didn't ever run fast enoug to hurt the calves.  I'm hoping to be able to jog a couple miles tomorrow, but we'll see.  It's gonna have to be on the treadmill thanks to the winter storm.  We have single-digit lows the next couple days, a lot of snow (for Texas) and windchills below zero!  I'm really not equipped for all that.

Not that it really means anything but I compared my relative gender and age group placings to 2010 results when they had better, more typical conditions and those finishers were in the 3:21-3:22 range.  Can't put too much stock in that though, but it is a nice sanity check.

So, thinking finally about goals and races for this year...  Maintain 50+ mile weeks and very slowly work my way up to 60s.  For this spring, I want to run a couple local 5Ks (inch closer to sub-20), the Capitol 10K in Austin if work allows (sub-43, it's a tough course), and either a half or a full at OKC (get below 1:35 or 3:20).  This summer will be base-building - too hot to race much in TX.  This fall, I would like to run either the half or full here in Abilene in October if they have it, and finally Houston in January 2012 where I hope I'm ready for a 3:10:59.  Probably need to be injury-free all year to pull it all off, so that is a goal as well.

Just read your race report....Wow...Looks like you really did well in the race. Congradulations, I bet you're excited for you're next race to improve and compare! BTW...I live near San Marcos, just started running last year and found the Blog a couple of weeks ago. I notice you're friends with Flatlander, I've been talking him quite a bit. Let me know if you ever plan to race in Austin or San Antonio. Good to meet you.

Sounds like a good plan! My quads are wasted as well. I definitely have Houston on my agenda for next year--it is the best marathon I have ever run as far as spectator support. There are no lonely parts on that course and I think in better conditions it is definitely a fast course. Also, for such a massive race, the organization is unrivaled.

Mark - Capitol 10k is March 27. I think I might have an execise that weekend, now that I look at it, but I highly recommend the race. Lots of entertainment along the course, and was well-organized by pace.

IJR - thanks and a belated welcome to the blog, nice to have another Texan around. I'm sure our paths will cross one of these days.

April - agree with everything you said about Houston...just hoping we can win the lotto again (if they have one).

Rye - the storm part came already and dropped a bunch of ice and snow, but the wind is making it miserable! Everything is closed because it's Texas and no one knows what to do.

Well, as your #1 friend, let me say that you need to take it real easy. Do like the elites and take some serious time off. Your recovery runs need to be at a snail's pace. Also, when that cold weather strikes, rub your body in butter.
