Box Elder Peak with Craig and Je10:
Box Elder has been on my to-do list for about 15 years now. I can see the dang thing from my backyard and I can't believe it has taken me so long to get it done, but we did it this morning and I can finally check it off my list, but I will definitely go back again.
We met early this morning hoping to beat the storm and other than some really cold wind we did. The run up was really enjoyable. We did have a run in with some angry hunters with guns that were mad that we were talking in the mountains. Hmm. No need to argue with armed rednecks, so we smiled, apologized and kept moving up. A few minutes later we had the best sunrise of the year. Unreal! The summit ridge was very steep. We werent really on a trail and ended up going straight up the west face. Steep! It was really windy, so we didn't stay long, but the views from the top were some of the best I have seen in the Wasatch. It was a really sweet view of Timp to the south.
The run down was also a total blast. The fall colors are out in full force. I heard some elk bugle and really enjoyed the trail. There really isn't a better way to start the day. Great friends and a ton of fun.
