This run was my "tour of separated subdivisions" run. There were two pairs of subdivisions in Decatur featured in the newspaper over the past month. As they grew, the subdivisions got closer together to the point where it made civic sense to join them. The neighborhoods protested citing increased traffic and decreased privacy. The city ceded to one of them and constructed a large wall that prevented foot and vehicular traffic between the two. Vandals spraypainted "Decatur's Berlin Wall" and "Mayor, Tear down this wall" on it.
I had to check out both of these so it became a "destination" run. This is the best type of run for me. No set distance or time. Just run from here to there to see what you can see. Tourist run of a sort.
Another run of this mold was the Run Across Morgan County. 7 of us parked on one side of the county 6am one morning. 3 of us kept running till we reached the other side of the county (34miles). The last 15 miles was very hilly (3 ~400+ ft climbs). It was great. My friends wife got a picture of the three of us by the "Leaving Morgan County" sign. Being in Alabama, this had some good Forrest Gump undertones. Maybe someday we will run clear across the fine state of Alabama. |
