Warmed up a mile and mile speed changes on the back stretch. Then did strides.
For the 1600 I got an okay start but got flat tired... It's really hard to run an try to stick your heel back in your spike at the same time. First lap was right where I wanted it, a 78. 800 was 2:38, and didn't catch the last split. Finished with 5:19. I thought I had it at the end and I think I backed off a bit and missed state qualifying by 4 seconds. I learned my lesson all right. At first I was really upset about it, but then I realized I have the whole season left to qualify, and I was only a second off my PR, which happened on a fast track and when I was tapered and did everything right for. This race I only ice bathed for. Didn't eat many carbs last night or gu like I normally do when I get fast times. The difference was that I wanted it and believed I could state qualify and went after it. That's what I've been missing.
The 3200 I obviously didn't want it enough because I did awful. I fell off the pack the fifth lap and died. Came through the mile at 5:40 and died to 12:01. I should not be running a 6:21 second mile. I mentally lost it and it cost me big time.
Then raced the 4x800. I was first. I followed the front girls for 300 and felt the pace then surged past them on the straight. I got scared because I was leading and started to kick, but with 200 left my legs hurt in a different way, I forgot what sprinting pain feels like. Wasn't prepared for that, my last 200 I had a hard time maintaining my kick, 2 girls passed me back. But I felt like I ran fast! Too bad I didn't time it.
Overall I guess it was a good day. Finally broke 5:20 this year. It about time. And I know what to do next time :)
