Free 5k/10k fun run tonight in Payson starting at 6:30 at South County Lanes Bowling alley.  It is a silent auction/fundraiser for Addict 2 Athletes.  Come on down and participate and we will get the real competition started in the bowling alley after the race. http://addicttoathlete.org/annual-5k/

PM:  Pushed my nephew in the jogging stroller for the Addict to Athlete 5k, 8:54 pace.  This was so much fun!  I stayed with Julia & my sister and we just had a good time.  So many people in my life (including myself) that have suffered from addiction at some point in there lifes.  I was honored to support such a great cause and it turned out to be such a beautiful night to run.

Sounds fun! Hey Rachelle I need your advise for my upcoming marathon. I remember you saying you use to cramp during your first marathons too. I am extremely worried about cramping again and wonder what you did differently to stop the cramping?

Hey Angie! I have had lots of issues with cramping in marathons and think that almost everytime it has been due to dehydration/lack of fueling. (I'm a VERY salty sweater!) Here is what I think has helped me.

1. Pacing. If you get your heart rate up too early in a marathon you will start working too hard too early and that may lead to crashing and cramping. The best advice I was ever given is that the first half of a marathon should feel "stupid easy". I could not agree more.

2. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Fluids are cruically important for me. So start early (thur the week of) and get as many fluids in before and during the race. I switch to gatorade for the extra calories, liquid carbs, and electrolytes.

3. Salt pills. I just use salt stick and take one the night before, morning of, and depending on how hot it is one every hour. The warmer it is the more you sweat so the more sodium you need to replace.

4. Calcium/potassium. I really up both of these leading into a marathon now. It may be in my head but I think it helps.

Hopefully this is helpful. Again everyone is different but I do think these things have helped for me. I think most of my cramping was due to starting out too fast. Are you running Big Cottonwood or Hunstville? I'm excited for you!

What's a salt stick? I am so taking all your advice. I value it. Your a pro. I am a huge salty sweater. I have salt stains on my shirts after I run. I need to try this salt stick out.

Salt stick is just an electrolyte pill. http://www.saltstick.com/ Send me your address and I will send you some. I have a full bottle. :)

Hey Rachelle, thanks for the advice for myself too. I am a way salty sweater, it is like I swam in the Great Salt Lake or laid in salt. Maybe just save a few of those sticks out for me when I see you again. Hopefully soon.

Your awesome! It's 7678 S 1650 E south Weber 84405. I'm doing hunstville. Did you decide on the half?

I've been reading along, too. Thanks!

Awesome I'll get them sent. :) I was offered a bib for the half but then realized I'm going to be out of town that weekend so I'm not running it. I am a little sad because it looks like such an awesome course.
