Personal:

I decided to join to hold myself accountable for my training and because I love learning from others running experiences.  I just started running a little over a year ago and have a lot to learn.  I work fulltime as a Manager of Telecommunications for Intermountain Healthcare and go to school online through Weber State University.  If you want to know more check out my blog: www.runningfortrevor.blogspot.com

9 mile orchard loop with Jen. Not really easy but not really a workout either. 4 miles sub-7. I am ready to refocus my running again and start training for something I think. But what? Any suggestions are welcome. Currently I'm not registered for anything until UVM in June.

You could do the Thanksgiving point 1/2. It looks awful and I've never ran it. But I think you should :)

From Lily on Tue, Mar 05, 2013 at 09:18:47 from 67.199.178.95

Yeah Thanksgiving point half. It's not an easy course. Good Challenge.

From Jake K on Tue, Mar 05, 2013 at 09:27:07 from 155.100.226.191

Holladay Mile!

Although you're probably looking for something a little more substantial to train for. You could get a free entry to the SLC 1/2 under their elite program.

From Rachelle on Tue, Mar 05, 2013 at 09:39:16 from 67.199.182.207

Jake - how does that work? Is there someone I need to contact? I've been considering that half but the price is ridiculous!

From Jake K on Tue, Mar 05, 2013 at 09:44:22 from 155.100.226.191

On the front page of their website, above the Adidas logo, there is a small link to the elite program. That has all the info. You easily hit the standards, and should get a comped entry with no problem.

They changed the course for this year, getting rid of the evil state street hill at the very end (and adding some hills in the middle through Sugar House Park instead). Its a really good course in my opinion.

From Jackie82 on Tue, Mar 05, 2013 at 09:52:41 from 18.189.42.191

You are so cool to work your way up to elite and a free entry into a half! Snag that one, you deserve it!

From RAD on Tue, Mar 05, 2013 at 12:17:40 from 76.27.82.202

I'm all over that elite entry! You've earned it! A great course too. I'm not a fan of the hills in Sugarhouse park, but you've been there and know what you're in for. Definitely an easier mental challenge than State Street hill climb at the end.

From JulieC on Tue, Mar 05, 2013 at 13:12:44 from 70.103.189.14

I have to laugh that u call only one of tbe four sub7 miles as fast. Hee hee speedy! I suppose only sub630s are fast now. :-)

From Rachelle on Tue, Mar 05, 2013 at 14:36:34 from 67.199.182.207

Jake - Thanks for the info. I definitely like the new course and the hills at sugar house aren't too terrible because they are rolling.

Jackie - Thanks! I definitely do not consider myself Elite but I am short on funds and would love the free entry.

RAD - Are you doing the half this year?

Julie - I consider it fast all based on effort. If it feels hard then it gets a special "fast" mile. :) It was a whopping 6:44 today!

From Bam on Tue, Mar 05, 2013 at 14:50:45 from 89.126.28.24

If I were you, I'd stick to your plan.

I'd spend a few months doing weeks that had two tempo runs/progressions and a session of 3x15 secs building to 45 secs at 3k pace with a jog back recovery and 5 mins jog between sets/some other cheeky little sessions that make this phase interesting, progressive and prepare you for the next phase.

After 2 months of this, I'd move into 6 weeks specific 5k trg. Then I'd smash my 5k pr to smithereens.

Have some ice cream and then with my new 5k speed look at the OTQ time for the marathon.

Simple really.

From RAD on Tue, Mar 05, 2013 at 15:18:40 from 76.27.82.202

If I do the half it will be nice and slow...I'll have just finished Boston Monday :)

From Christie on Tue, Mar 05, 2013 at 15:24:48 from 74.213.202.246

The SLC half was my first and still favorite race. I say do that one:) Are you still planning on running UVM?

From NatalieK on Tue, Mar 05, 2013 at 15:52:22 from 67.182.200.33

I'm so excited for you to run UVM! I hope you get a calmer day. Either way, you're going to crush last years time.

From Rachelle on Tue, Mar 05, 2013 at 17:10:23 from 159.212.71.25

Bam - I do like the plan but tricking this marathoner into becoming a 3ker may take a lot of chocolate cake!

RAD - I like your plan. So excited for you to run Boston.

Christie - SLC is the one original race I haven't ever participated in so I better give it a whirl.

Natalie - I am registered for UV full but I may be dropping down to the half if I can adhere to the Bam project. :) Or maybe I'll just direct all my focus on the Holladay mile....
