Personal:

I decided to join to hold myself accountable for my training and because I love learning from others running experiences.  I just started running a little over a year ago and have a lot to learn.  I work fulltime as a Manager of Telecommunications for Intermountain Healthcare and go to school online through Weber State University.  If you want to know more check out my blog: www.runningfortrevor.blogspot.com

Hilly route with Jen in Salem easy 7:52 pace.  It was a lovely snowy run down south.  We were both sitting in the parking lot for 10 min sleeping before we realized that we were both there. Ha ha so funny.

I am looking for opinions.  I absolutely realize that this is open to criticism so feel free to reiterate how stupid I am.  I already know I'm an idiot!  I am registered for the Dog town half marathon this weekend.  Yes I am an idiot and registered for this not even realizing it was right after IMS.  (My new new year’s resolution for 2013 is to quit being so spontaneous!)  Anyway I am trying to decide what to do.  Do I race the half at MP?  Drop down to the 9k or 5k?  Jog it?  Just spectate?  I hate throwing away money but definitely don't want to risk an injury by doing something dumb.  I am feeling good post race, I think the flat course helps with quicker recovery but I am definitely in no spot to race a half again.  Ahhh why am I so stupid.

PM:  4 treadmill miles 8:00 pace.

You're not stupid, just a little overly stoked :) Can you run the half without racking? If so , do that! You would probably run that far anyway on a Saturday.

first, i don't think that's stupid. racing is fun -- it makes sense to me sign up for as many races as you want, especially if it keeps you motivated and takes you to warmer areas at this time of year.

as for racing -- i wouldn't. run, yes. tempo for a few miles, yes. enjoy the opportunity to get in a bunch of miles in a race setting, yes. but another weekend actually racing may be too soon -- i think it's a risk. only you know how you feel though...

whatever you end up doing -- enjoy. it's a good weekend to head south.

Since you already spent the money you should for sure just go enjoy running in nice weather. Plus, you can always use more running shirts.

5k would stress muscles more so no to that. 9 k is an option to test out that distance. What is it..9.3 miles I think. Definitely not race it all out but maybe the goal you originally had for IMS...6:30 to 6:35 pace...but I think dogtown is harder than IMS with elevation...cold weather....not sure. Either way just don't go to the point you were at at IMS. : D

Thanks so much for the feedback everyone. I really do appreciate it.

Aimee & Allie - I really did sign up for it with the intent of going down south. Which is still looking to be the best option considering it'll be snowing all weekend here.

Rob - The race actually gives out shorts! So no matter what I'll get my $40 shorts.

Julie - seriously my mathemetician friend? 9k is usually shorter than 10k...last I checked. ;) I think it's like 4.6789012 miles?

Well for what its worth, I did a MP tempo run 5 days after PF Chang's, feeling like I was completely fine going into it, fine during the workout... but in the process I pulled my quad apart and could barely walk the next day. So while you could probably run it at a moderate pace and feel fine while doing so, its an obvious risk. An all-out HM effort really takes ~10 days to recover from, even for people that recover quickly. I'd just go and have fun running and don't worry about going fast b/c you have nothing to prove after the race last weekend.

I like that 9K to 9.3 miles conversion Julie! You must be using one of Fiddy's calculators :-)

I'm with Jake: go and enjoy the weather, pick up the shorts and just run it at an easy pace - Enjoy it.

You're in great shape and it would be mad to risk blowing all the hard work you've put in. Injuries stink and when you're injured you look back and say, 'Why did I do that?'

Know anyone that wants to run a 1:35 to 1:45 Half? Get them to sign up for the shorts and pace them. Enjoy the race ... but don't race! :)

I was thinking 15 k ooops. 5 miles then.....hee hee

I concur! Treat it like a nice, warm longish run. Nothing stinks more than spending an 1.5 h to wreck an entire summer of training!

You could always pace a random friendly person with a goal - not under 1:30 :)

From Carina on Fri, Feb 22, 2013 at 09:14:17 from 204.15.86.83

I think pacing someone with over a 1:30 goal would be a perfect option!! I say do that :)
