Personal:

I decided to join to hold myself accountable for my training and because I love learning from others running experiences.  I just started running a little over a year ago and have a lot to learn.  I work fulltime as a Manager of Telecommunications for Intermountain Healthcare and go to school online through Weber State University.  If you want to know more check out my blog: www.runningfortrevor.blogspot.com

8.5 miles easy.  I wish I could keep the morning weather right now around all year long.  Love it!  Planks/pushups afterwards.

Does anyone in UT county want to run long with me tomorrow morning  14-16 miles easy pace?

I am running some very low key charity 5k's the next two weekends so I'll be moving my LR's to Friday.  I am not planning to taper or go for PR's at either of these races.  My focus is far from the 5k right now so I will just use them both as workouts and shoot for 10k-hm pace.

Question of the day.  In your opinion which course is faster TOU or UVM?  TOU has less overall elevation gain but my thoughts are that UVM is faster because it has more overall loss and the last 6 miles are gradually aided.  hmmm

i've never run UVM, but james has a bunch of ridiculous data on both (it's legit -- math stuff), and he says they are almost exactly the same, with UVM being only slightly faster (a 20 second difference, he says!)

i have plenty of data/info on the TOU course that i would be glad to send you if you are interested.

Here's a cool comparison that Paul made a while back:

Sasha's predictor also says that they are about the same.

I think there is something to be said for that last 10K being gradually downhill at UVM... its nice, mentally!

Paul's thing is great. I'd say they are a push, and it depends on the year. If not for the headwind, UVM's finish is considerably less unfavorable compared to TOU, but the first 15 miles of TOU are heavenly, rain or shine. The same can't be said for the climbs @ UVM. I think you have much better weather potential at TOU.

allie, the CBO produces "legit math stuff" to help our elected officials make fiscal policy decisions; this makes me scared of math.

Thanks for the feedback.

Allie - I would LOVE all of your geeked out info. :)

Jake - I definitely agree about the last 6 miles of UV. It is mentally huge!

Kam - With my luck this year I am anticipating an ice storm at TOU.

I have to agree with the opinions so far. About the same, but it just depends on where you like your 'push'. TOU is hard at the end (mentally): flat, windy through neighborhoods and a little tiny blip, but it seems like a mountain; however, the first and middle miles are amazing and like Kam said - always heavenly!

UVM has those crazy rollers in the middle, cement road to trash the knees and possibilites of bad weather; however, the end is magnificent! GREAT crowd support and that gentle downhill is just amazing when you are tired.

So, I think the courses are pretty evenly matched as far as overall - you just have to factor in the mental issues and what kind of course you perform best on.
