Okay so I have to admit that I lied on Monday and I am not 100% healthy.  After assessing my lab results and writing my reports I learned that my cholesterol is borderline high!  yikes I thought I was young and healthy?  It is only barely high at 202 but dang that was a blow to the ego.  My Dad has had high cholesterol for as long as I can remember and it definitely runs in my family.......so I guess the only solution is to start exercising more. ;)

PM:  3 miles at the gym watching the Jazz game.  Just trying to lower my cholesterol. :)

honey nut cheerios.

I don't think it's possible for you to exercise more!! Now I feel like I should go get a physical. On a different note. I think you should totally look into running cross country for weber. I have no doubt you'd make it, and your only young once. If I could go back and run under a coach I'd totally do it!!

i'm not clear on all the rules, but i think the fact that you have accepted prize money makes you ineligible to compete in the NCAA. i could be wrong though -- there are always exceptions and loopholes.

From Jake K on Wed, Nov 14, 2012 at 11:00:52 from 155.100.226.191

If the prize money only offsets your expenses (gear, travel, etc), you're still eligible. They are actually more lax about XC/Track than you would expect.

High cholesterol runs in my family too. Unfortunately it doesn't care how many miles per week you run!

My mom who is the most healthy person I know has high cholesterol and it runs in her family. She eats a super clean diet and has exercised 5-6 days per week for 30 years, so don't feel bad about it and you definitley work out enough.

From AngieB on Wed, Nov 14, 2012 at 11:38:17 from 159.212.71.173

I hear ya. I have high cholesterol too. Thanks to my mom. It sucks!

From Rob on Wed, Nov 14, 2012 at 11:49:48 from 72.254.43.246

Yay, It's not just me. Thanks for coming out everyone.

Oh, I mean, sorry to hear that, I tried the cheerio thing for a while, it didn't help me. I refuse to take drugs for it though.

I am so glad I am not the only one with high cholesterol because wow I was so embarassed when I learned this tid bit of information!

Rob - I could be like my Dad & just take my Lipitor with my daily McDonalds cheeseburger. Heaven forbid he take his lipitor on an empty stomach. :)

Carina - I was only joking about exercising more. But I'll take any excuse I can find to run more.

Jake & Allie - I am not even considering running for Weber. I kind of have a good job and am not really willing to leave it. I just found it very interesting that an old person like me would even be eligible.

Scott & Angie - You both made me feel so much better. Thanks!

From Jake K on Wed, Nov 14, 2012 at 12:01:00 from 155.100.226.191

It would be a lot of commuting!

There are advantages and disadvantages to running on a team. Some people thrive in that environment, some people can run much, much better on their own. I fall into the second category. I suspect you do as well. Plus, there's no NCAA D1 Marathon :-)

Yeah, you guys are old!

From RAD on Wed, Nov 14, 2012 at 12:14:57 from 67.171.119.50

I don't know if you saw my comment the other day, but I just found out my cholesterol is high too...204. We're almost twins :) Thanks to my mom. I'm trying a new natural supplement that is supposed to help lower LDL. I figure it can't hurt, right? My Dr office called and TOLD me to exercise more! So, I DO have an excuse now. My husband just looked wide eyed and said "THE 50 HOURS A WEEK YOU ALREADY DO AT THE GYM ISN'T ENOUGH?!?" Guess not :) Made me laugh. I didn't say anything to her, but it made me laugh. It was just the nurse that has probably never even met me. Anyway, if it works for me I'll let you know. Pretty cheap too. I'm glad I'm not the only old, lazy, fat runner struggling with high cholesterol too :)

Jake - Yeah I really have no desire and walking around that campus just felt completely weird! I haven't ever really gone to college and am not really ready to start. :)

Rob - Believe me in UT being 26 with no kids is incredibly ancient. I'm honestly surprised that Ut county hasn't kicked me out yet!

Rachel - You will definitely have to let me know. I did some research and am just completely surprised because I actually think I eat really well. I did learn that I need to start taking omega-3 again so maybe that will help. This is all just ridiculous! Imagine what it would be if I ate like crap and didn't exercise. Yikes!

From runningafterbabies on Wed, Nov 14, 2012 at 19:16:45 from 71.195.219.247

What is more important that your total cholesterol is your HDL/LDL ratio and your triglyceride count. I'm sure your HDL is pretty high - it is in most athletes. Check into that.

From runningafterbabies on Wed, Nov 14, 2012 at 19:20:50 from 71.195.219.247

Ideally you want your LDL to be under 100 and your HDL to be at least 40, but more optimally above 60.
