Today was one of those days when you wake up and want nothing more than to sleep for another 8 hours. Eventually I got out of bed and dragged myself out the door for a run. Glad I did! I went exploring and found some awesome trails. First I went up 15th north to the Bonneville trail and went north on it until it ended, then I ran up the canyon in Kings Nature Park until I got to the Green Canyon Trail and ran on that a ways before I had to turn back to go home. Fun, nice and relaxing run. 7 miles. (GT 230.2)

Bryan and I randomly went on another night run! But this time I didn't gorge myself on junk food right before the run, so it went lots better. Around 11pm, we ran the Canyon Road loop with Old Main stairs and a coupla shortcuts. Kinda went crazy and ran through all the sprinklers we saw, even though it was only about 50 degrees outside! And we yelled out our battle cries while we froze in the water and crazy wind. Good times. 4.5 miles. (GT 234.7)

How many hours of sleep are you getting on average? When I was a freshman in the dorms I was very bad with my sleeping, preferring fun over sleep. That's great if you aren't running competitively.

The other day I was thinking about your goal to get more sleep. I am wondering if you should make a more concrete goal, like always get at least 7 hours of sleep, or a bed time goal. Sleep will help you perform and, just as important, avoid injury.

Unrelated question, your current picture has you in a USU uniform with short shorts. I thought you had to wear bummies?

Average? Probably 6-7...? Usually I go to bed after midnight, but I have late classes and the earliest I get up is 8 am. Lately my sleep has diminished because of my cough, but that should be gone soon. My coach and I have talked about time goals for the season and ways to get there. Getting adequate sleep will definitely be a 'progressive goal' to get my 5k time goal this year. So far, though, I'm getting more sleep than I did in high school by a couple hours per night, so I'm already doing better!

About the shorts - we have the 'boyshort' spandex uniforms, thank goodness! They're still short and I'm not comfortable in them, but better than bummies by a lot! There are bummies available for us if we want, but I DON'T!
