Just another raining morning in Salt Lake City!  However, I arrived at work early and did what is becoming my standard run on the Airport Bike Path to North Temple and 2400 West and back.  I was able to keep a relatively solid pace throughout this 7.6-mile run with the following splits: 7:44, 6:54, 7:07, 7:10, 7:02, 7:14, 7:15, and 3:58 (total time: 54:23; average pace: 7:09).  This is basically a minute per mile faster than three weeks ago!  If finished this run with a 0.2-mile cool-down jog.

Also, the best and almost the worst part was that on the way back I was cutting the tangents on the bike path and saw something ahead that looked like the size of big black bird scurrying to the other side of the path just as I turned the corner.  The creature stopped within arms-length to my left, which I thought was rather strange in that I was figuring as I ran toward it, it would take off.  Wrong!  As I ran by I noticed it was not a bird, but a skunk up on his front legs with is tail in the air.  Needless to say, a sub-5 pace for the next quarter of a mile!  Thankfully, the smell did not stick or I do not know what I would have done in that I needed to report to work after this run.

In regards to my non-running workout, I was able to complete 300 sit-ups, a 2-minute wall-sit, and 60 (50 lbs) curls.

YIKES! I've run past a few skunks in my day and seen a few others cross my path, but never been anywhere near a spray - that would put ME into a sub 5 pace, which is like miracle speed for me :)

Nice job on the run - glad things are working out well.

Where are those veggies????

man, that skunk story is one of my nightmares, glad you are dang fast and could outrun the stench!

That's pretty funny! I have often wondered if I would run into something like that when I run early in the morning, in the dark, on the little county roads I run on out here in Podunkville.

BTW...My run for today was very close to yours (time and distance) :-) But I bet my expended effort was much greater than yours :-)

Hi gang! Sorry for the delayed response, but CFA studies are taking up so much of my time these days (one more week to go on this).

Anyway, I agree with Allie in that it sounds like RAD has some awesome skunk stories. :-) I actually have one other skunk story (which can be used as a good running ghost story) and you'll like this one Kelli. 2009 Wasatch Back, East Canyon Reservoir, Van #2 waiting for Van #1 to arrive and it's just after midnight. I'm with my friends and colleagues from work and it's really dark and we're navigating around with our headlamps. We settle down to get a nap. I'm so tired I just plop down on a picnic table while 4 of my friends are on a tarp off to my left in their sleeping bags and one of my buddies is on the ground to my right in a sleeping bag. Around 1:00 am my buddy on the right starts muttering curse words which gets me out of my drowsy condition. He whispers that there is a skunk under the picnic table I'm sleeping on. After I confirm that he is dead serious (not a terrible prank) and he identified the creature by flashing on his headlamp for a second. With the exception of the background noise of the exchange off in the distance, after a little whispering with my teammates, everything just goes dead silent and you can hear the creature searching around underneath the bench (probably for food). I'm in complete fear that this creature is going to freak out and just wipe out our team. Since we always make full-length movies of our Wasatch Back experience, I was sleeping with my camcorder and tried unsuccessfully to locate it with the night vision function. After a few intense minutes the skunk scurried away and spared us. Close call!

Also, Kelli, I know I have been slaking on the veggies, ugh! Preston, yes very similar workouts and nice job!

Thanks everyone and enjoy the holiday weekend!

That would have made for a great Ragnar film! You dodged the bullet on that one!
