I woke up at 4:00am for that? Actually, Meb was amazing, apparently he beat the little English Bulldog.

Meb always comes through! Smart, smart race once again for him. Same thing w/ Dos Santos. Those guys are veterans and know how to get the job done.

At least Team USA beat Ethiopia (all 3 of their guys DNF'd)

Yeah, I thought it was good. I just was expecting Ryan to do something crazy.

From allie on Sun, Aug 12, 2012 at 11:02:37 from 174.23.146.24

gotta love meb.

From Rob on Sun, Aug 12, 2012 at 11:57:05 from 204.15.84.2

Meb is the proudest American I've ever seen.

Just a thought about Ryan. He made such a point out of being coached by God, and saying he would never train on Sunday, or race on Sunday, yet the biggest Marathon of his career was on Sunday. I wonder if he struggled with that?

From steve ash on Sun, Aug 12, 2012 at 12:19:10 from 174.52.177.84

I'm sure he did. I struggle with it at times, but I've come to realise however that it's between you and God and no one else. I used to care what other people thought about that and amongst other things. No more..

From allie on Sun, Aug 12, 2012 at 13:09:00 from 174.23.146.24

rob - just to clarify, are you saying he struggled with it enough that it was a factor in his decision to drop out? just curious if that is what you mean. surely it affected him in some way, but at the same time, it's nothing new that marathons are held on sunday.

From Rob Murphy on Sun, Aug 12, 2012 at 13:13:53 from 24.10.249.165

Did he really say he would never race on Sunday? If so then I would definitely imagine it would be a struggle.

It SHOULD be between you and God unless you make a big deal about it publicly.

Might want to re examine his commitment to run New York this year.

Now I'll have to go look up exactly what he said, I know he said he wouldn't train on Sundays.

I don't think at mile 13 or where ever he dropped out he all of a sudden decided he shouldn't be running on Sunday, I was just wondering if his training leading up to it was affected. But I guess Chicago is on Sunday too so I'm probably way off. Tim Tebow plays football on Sunday.

From Jake K on Sun, Aug 12, 2012 at 13:48:14 from 67.177.11.154

Meb made me nervous... he is such a proud American that I thought Dos Santos might get him while he was messing around w/ the flag!

Ryan Hall has run pretty much all of his big races on Sundays. I'm sure that had nothing to do w/ why he dropped out. His last race was a half-marathon in about 1:06, about what I can run. I think he was injured. If he has a hamstring injury, that can go on you pretty easily - ask Andrea!

From Jake K on Sun, Aug 12, 2012 at 13:50:43 from 67.177.11.154

He said he was taking every 7th day off and every 7th week easy. Basically just trying to find ideas about running in a book that obviously isn't about running.

Back when he was running 7 days a week, he ran 59 minutes for the half marathon and 2:06 in London, then ran one of the best marathon I've ever seen at the 2007 trials in Central Park. I hate to say it, but since then, he really hasn't been the same runner (Boston 2011 being the only exception in the past 4 years).

From Rob on Sun, Aug 12, 2012 at 14:01:48 from 198.228.221.191

I wonder if his movie will still come out?

From Rob Murphy on Sun, Aug 12, 2012 at 14:19:57 from 24.10.249.165

I was thinking the same thing Jake (about the flag). Also, if you're going to do the flag thing, try not to drag it all over the ground.

From Jake K on Sun, Aug 12, 2012 at 14:27:23 from 67.177.11.154

I donated $20 to the movie, so I hope so!

haha about the flag. Meb needs to remember that 4th place w/ no flag waving is better for the USA than 5th place w/ flag waving! :-)

In any case, incredible race, once again, for him. Everyone thought he was washed up at this point last year... 3 fantastic marathons in a row for him since that point.

From Rob on Sun, Aug 12, 2012 at 18:21:32 from 204.15.86.95

Wrapping a flag around yourself is a pretty strange tradition. A towel seems more appropriete.
