I decided this year was starting off very badly since I haven't logged any real running miles, and also decided that I'd rather run slow than not at all.

18 minutes on the elliptical then I got on the treadmill to give my leg a try.  I set the treadmill to 7 mph and incline to 3%.  I ended up doing a progressive incline workout, keeping the speed the same but increasing the incline 0.5% every mile so I ended up doing the last mile at 6% (which was pretty brutal)  Leg felt fine the whole time, and I felt like I got a really good workout.  If my calculations are correct that comes to 1,478' of vertical climb over the 7 miles.

7 miles in 60 minutes 8:34 avg pace.

30 minutes of weights in an even more crowded gym than yesterday.

I am now officially signed up for the BigHorn 50 Miler, I see a lot more hill workouts in my future.

Wow! Thinking about how hard my heart started going at 6% today and now thinking about increasing to 12% for the same speed and distance makes me sick. I'm not sure the treadmill does 12% but if it does I'm trying it tomorrow :)

Rob I get the sense that we have similar mentalities in terms of when someone puts an idea (especially a challenging one) in our heads, there's no stopping us from giving it a try!

That is normally the case, until I started reading Dave Crocketts reports for the last few days. I don't think I will EVER try a 48 hour race :)

Crockett's race reports are like a big commuter train wreck. There's lots of ugly carnage, but you can't look away. He's got quite a constitution.

Wow, I was impressed at the 6% - now I can't wait for the 12% tomorrow!! Oh, and I think the TM's go to 15%, because I've walked at a 10%+ before - so you're all good to go :) Crockett is Crazy, that good kind of crazy that we all bow down and admire! Reading about the races makes me want to do them - it is reading the recovery (even a walk from the car to his desk HURTS!) that makes me shy away.

Maybe that's his strategy. Maybe it's actaully really easy to run for 48 hours straight in the hot desert with no sleep and limited food and water, he just makes it sound hard to weed out the competition.
