I herniated/ruptured a disk (L4/L5) in my back in December, 2005. I told my orthopedic surgeon I wanted to start running. He said "You'll never run again.". What a challenge! So...I started running.
Since then I've lost about 50 pounds, ran 13 marathons and a number of other races.
I am still a clydesdale runner (over 200 lbs), have a large frame, big bones, and not built like a runner at all. I'm not fast. I mostly run to have some time to myself and keep in shape.

9.4 on a treadmill. 7:18/mile.
Had a fun day skiing yesterday with family and friends. Unfortunately I wasn't watching where I was going on my first run and crashed. I had a camera in the chest pocket of my coat, which bruised the left front of my ribs. The ski trip was worth it, but I taking deep breaths is difficult. The run went well with short quick breaths the whole way. It should be (hopefully) better by Boston (1 week 6 days). |

| 8 miles out and back at noon in North Logan. Ribs are still very sore. Can't breath in deep, cough, sneeze, or laugh without some pain. Ran taking smooth short breaths. Still had a decent run at 7:26/mile. 1 week 5 days to Boston. |
