Was driving back from SoCal yesterday and wanted to break up the drive. I'd happened on to this race browsing one of the race calendars and kept it in the back of my mind in case things worked out. Along about Cedar City we decided we'd had enough driving so we stopped in lovely Beaver to find a pool for the kids and allow me to get a run in.
The race was too cheap to pass up. Only $30.00. The race was really small but very, very well done.
The course proved to be rather challenging. Loop course. Lots and lots of rolling hills. And more hills. After spending the week at sea level I had a surprisingly hard time catching my breath. I was breathing very hard for the first 3 miles before I finally felt comfortable. I reached the high point on the course at 6405' msl around mile 5 (net gain 440'). All in all not thrilled with the time, but really enjoyed the workout. The last couple of miles were a steady uphill followed by a short downhill finish. |
