Rough one today.  Started well.  Laced up a new pair of Nike's and headed out.  The garmin was doing ok for the first 3-4 miles (lap 1- 7:10, lap 2- 7:16, lap 3- 8min, etc).  Somewhere around  mile 5 the garmin would begin beeping every 500 yards or so, so the pace/time/distance was working, but the lap thing was way out of control (need to read instructions better).  Around mile 3 the rain began (maybe affect garmin?).  It was mid-30's and raining (not snowing).  Then around mile 6 my right knee began to lock.  No excruciating pain or anything, it just wouldn't really work any more.  I gave it a mile or so of run/walking, but every downhill segment, no matter how big or small, would cause it to lock-up- maybe it was a month of not running outside?  a month without any hills? 3hrs of tennis with kids on the wii? yesterday's run catching up with me?  the rain/cold?  the new shoes?  I don't know.  I can climb the stairs easily...it's coming back down them that makes them lock now at home.

Oh well, I'll just keep taking things a day at a time...at least the achilles situation seems to be clearing up.  If I battle much longer, I may take time off just to regain my sanity.  Oh yeah, I'm also finished with back-to-back marathons.  I should have known better by watching the patterns of people on this blog.  Live and learn.

Hope the knee straightens out quickly. Not sure I can help figure out the problem but maybe rest and ice will take care of it. No pain is a good sign. As for the 305, I have the same watch and think its great. The rain should be no problem for it. I have run in the rain with mine many times. You do have to get the auto lap set correctly for it to record each mile. Also, might check to see if you have the virtual running partner set. That might be causing the beeping if you are falling behind your targets that are set. Also, I am with you on the Wii. My kids got some new games and I am sore from playing yesterday. Hope everything turns around for you soon.

It's actually not the knee. It's just below the knee on the upper side of leg, just to the right of my shin- no idea what it is...I've never hurt in this area before. Someone at church was telling me that it might be the natural process of not letting my ankle heal fully. The pain has worked it's way from ankle to achilles to another region. Apparently it's typical to do this between the foot and knee when you are compromising form in order to run with a slight injury. Makes sense...I've not been very patient in the healing process and it seems to be backfiring.

Not sure what to tell you about that. It might be better in the long run to take a full week off and not do anything so that everything can heal then come back at full strength instead of trying to do shorter runs and not letting it rest. Also, might be good to go to a sports Dr and see what they think. Reguardless, I hope this straightens out for you soon. I am sure that it has been very frustrating.

How's everything going? Hope you are enjoying New Year's day.

I dont know what I'd do without my Garmin. Once you straighten out your knee, you should have a lot of fun running this year.

I have the 405 and it is extremely sensitive to moisture. With only sweat on the bezel (watch face), the watch will start beeping and going crazy. Its important to keep it as dry as possible. Best of luck to you in 2010.
