I've been battling a nasty ear/throat infection.  The doctor put me on a 10-day antibiotic yesterday.  It killed me to take two days rest, but in the big scheme of things probably better for overall healing.  Today the throat felt much better, but I was a bit weak from lack of sleep.  I was scheduled for a "big workout", but cut things down to ease back into running.

Gorgeous day out.  Spent lunch break at the track.  Did a warm-up mile and realized anything I do today will take serious effort.  I felt breathy just doing a 7:40 mile.  Stretched for a bit and was determined to get a few mp miles in.  Ran a 5-mile tempo:  6:36 (too fast), 6:46 (better), 6:48 (worked harder), 6:49 (head cold getting to me), 6:39 (spent!).  Was glad to get the legs going again.

After work took a 2 hour nap and ventured down to the basement for another tempo run.  Decided a 5k semi-hard would be more managable than a 5-mile mp.  Ran 5k in 19:27 (6:16 pace) and did 1/2 mile cooldown.  Sickness is getting better, so hopefully a good night's rest will get me back on track with things.  Glad to get the legs moving for a couple descent spurts today.

Chiropractic and some acupuncture. 2 of the kids just had the chicken pox and little elli had a bad cold so I am glad I only have a mild night cough. My groin is a bit off but this is the time we start feeling everything.

Ease back.

Any medium or medium long runs planned?

Perfect day for a half marathon but I still feel a bit of a tweak in the right groin. It is tough to not run but the 2 days off for you is a blessing!! I personally think you should take today and Thursday off then run 30 miles MP with some speed over FRI, SAT and Sun and officially start your taper. I am going to rest today, 16-20 miles over Thursday and Friday, rest Saturday and there is a 10 mile hill race on Sunday. Then I can do nothing but short and sharp runs for the next 2 weeks. I AM NERVOUS BUT VERY EXCITED. Your so ready, I am a bit jealous in a good way though.

Indeed, at this point a well planned taper is what will impact your output on race day.

Time to trust and keep the those crazy thoughts to a minimal. I find it amazing that you can eat not so well before a long run, sleep terribly and still get up with little if any stress and run MP for 20-21 miles but yet when it comes down to tapering for a marathon we start to question our confidence. Like "wow those hills, the wall, weather ( i have checked 32 different weather websites in the past ), sleep, food .... etc etc. Its kind of funny when you think about it. Realistically 99% of the people that are in our lives don't really understand the difference between a 300 hour marathon and a 330 marathon, they just think its cool we are running Boston so during my ADHD moment I guess I am trying to tell myself to relax and take it in because we have all worked hard to get to Boston earning every minute of it even the painful ones.

Ahh yes, phantom pains and twinges will run rampant over the next weeks. You have to trust that you've prepared the organism and now must keep the brain from derailing your efforts. Focus on the things under your control and not be distracted and throw in some last minute changes or try a new idea. Easier said than done I know.

Yes, running Boston for what will be my first and probably last time (until the kids are much older anyway). I don't care for the early preparation at all. Too much treadmill time needed, bad weather, etc.

Let's all plan to have a lager (or two) after the race!!

Ah, the Boston anxiety and taper madness is starting to kick in all around. Time to just relax, trust the training, use the excitement to your advantage and just have fun and get your body ready to race.

Lagers...now, would help too! Definitely required after the race on April 20!

If anyone knows the place to meet later for beers let me know, I am sure they have something set up for the athletes.

Thanks folks...all comments help keep things in perspective. I have strep throat and the antibiotic + rest has been helpful. The strength is beginning to return. Good luck to you all these next couple of weeks!

Rest is the ultimate key at this point with some intensity runs. You've already completed the training and your bodies ready.

Get well and cut the miles with only a few miles in the intensity range.
