Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

I'm tired of having my schedule mixed up. I'm doing everything for everyone else...a time and season I guess. So, since I'm working 7-9 then babysitting from 9-12 the gym is out of the question and I had to get up early if I wanted to run. Only nice thing was the sunrise, totally worth getting up early for. Sorry the pic is blurry, but I think the lens on my phone was all fogged over from being in my pocket and I couldn't tell on my phone screen :) It really is a pretty run along the top road on the foothills overlooking the valley as the sun peaks over the Wasatch.

Took my uphill both ways route around Herriman. Only problem was that I had planned on stopping at about mile 6 at the park for water. Dumb thing didn't work! Figured I'd stop at Walgreens in another mile - closed! Okay, skate park in another 1/2 - not one there! Really?!? I had dry mouth and was hot and wanted a drink. Ahead were some sprinklers going over the sidewalk - oh yeah baby. For about 200 yds I just kept running through the sprinklers! I was soaking wet by the time I got through, but felt SO much better. Finally about .2 before my house I stopped at the church pavilion and got a drink...sweet water! Not really worth it at that point, but I was running right by it anyway.

So, now I'm at home hanging out and working or babysitting all morning and have to skip the gym. STINK! Fit class is my favorite all week, I don't think these people realize the sacrifices I'm making for them. But do people ever?

My legs did feel a lot better today, but now my issue is breathing. It really hurts to breathe deep. I've had this stupid side/back pain going on a week now! I'm sick of it, but there is nothing wrong with me...I'm perfectly healthy, so I just have to suck it up and deal with it. It was nice to not feel like lead legs though! The speed might just come back by October :)

I think all week my life is just going to be crazy busy and turned on its head.

Met the BBK's for miles this morning and was brave enough to get up at 4:30 to make the 5:15 early miles...sooooo tired.....

Garmin had turned itself on yesterday and as such was out of batteries when I tried to turn it on this morning - STINK. Oh well, I guess  I needed a garminless run. However, the way I've been running lately I really don't care about pace, just getting the miles in.

Did a 3 mile warm up and was SO happy Kelli came this morning. I love that girl. For the workout they were doing a 4 mile tempo and then hills. Shimelle and I decided that after the first 4 mile loop we'd be the dissenters and just continue on and complete one more loop instead of hills. That was enough for both of us.

Pretty uneventful run, just got there had a good visit with a few people, got the miles in and got out. Working again this morning and then I'm off for an out and back to Logan. Feel like I'm in Allie's commute-a-thon days! :) It's worth it though for $10 Lagoon tickets.

I.am.so.tired.

I think I almost fell asleep on my run this morning, if the run didn't feel so hard, like I was going to faint and keel over of exhaustion, I just might have fallen asleep. Found a nice patch of grass and laid down....

Best part? It is NOT getting any better until Sunday. Sigh. I may just have to take tomorrow off.

I did my Mirabella UP route in honor of Allie getting to do Sunnyside UP after a long hiatus. I'm not used to running this route in reverse, but it always seems easier afterward than I psych myself up for beforehand.

Pace was a little faster today, but still nowhere near where it was back in Feb/March. My back/side is still bugging me, my hip flexor is worse than its been in a month due to slipping on the pool deck Monday and jarring it funny and I'm just tired and achy all over. I think half of my push on the pace was that I was racing the clock. Trying to get home before my neighbor came over to drop off my 'work' this morning. Beautiful views of the sunrise going out and coming home today.

AP: 9:09 splits: 9:08, 8:46, 9:10, 9:40, 9:33, 8:36 (7:00 pace for the last 20 feet over 6 miles. I love it when I get a fast finish like that...even if for just 20 feet :)).

Now I'm off to drag 4 kids around Lagoon all day by myself. Luckily, bye-wing will be there with me to help divide and conquer with 2 of her children as well. Hot, standing in line, sticky sugar at every corner, no where to sit, grouchy kids from not sleeping for the last 4 nights, getting home at 11PM then getting up to run in the morning....yeah. I'm really excited.

I think I need a little cheese with my whine this morning....

or just some sleep!

Nothing...ab.so.lutely nothing! (if you can name that movie without google help you will be my best friend and gain all my respect!).

Yup. Got home and in bed at 12:30AM from Lagoon and there was no way in heaven (or the devil's home) that I was going to get up to go to running group...or run at all for that matter. I was tired and sore and I just wanted to sleep. So I did! Miles, schmiles. If I fall short of my goal this week...oh well. Enjoying running and being happy and healthy are bigger priorities, right?

I still had to work at 7, but the nice thing about my work is I can do it in my pj's :) so, alarm was set for 7AM. Ninety minutes later I got all three kids I was watching loaded in the car with baby (all the other kids were still sleeping, but I had to take him so he got early wake up too) and turned the key...nothin'. Ugghhhhh.....

Lets just say the next 8 hours of my life were spent dealing with a car that wouldn't start. Luckily a very generous neighbor helped me jump the car (which didn't work) and then drive all the kids to their parks. Later I did get a jump to work, so I drove the car to the dealership - needed oil change and em/insp anyway- while they checked it out (we still have a warranty, so we have to take it there). 4 hours and $450 later I got to go home.

4 kids + waiting room + 4 hours = disaster!

I finally got home at 4:30 ready to shower and get the day started, yeah PM. Just in time for work to show up again at 5:15...lovely. She asked why the car worked now. I told her "because the whole time you were off playing today I was sitting in a dealership waiting for the car to get fixed!" She just laughed.

Needless to say, nothing else happened today. I came home and flopped. Someone must've known that in order to get me to rest I needed to be pushed off the edge. The rest day was nice and I actually feel like getting up tomorrow morning to run. That hasn't happened in a while :)

Wanted to get out today, but wanted to sleep too. So, I hit the TM at home. What? You didn't think I had one? Au contrair mo frair!

The street that runs on the side of my house (I live on the corner of a circle) is down and back a 1 mile loop, so when I want/need to leave kids at home and save a drive to the gym I do my TM loop :) It's slightly better than a TM...just slightly. I come by the house every 5-7 minutes and so they can just wait outside if they need me, but I do carry my phone as well.

I had to work early again today, so when I got back from dropping them off I got changed and hit the pseudo TM outside. There really is something horribly wrong with me. I really shouldn't be feeling SO exhausted and breathing so hard running a simiple 9:30-10:00mm. It just isn't me. It just doesn't feel right, but I don't know what to do about it. I'm going to throw a little extra iron into the mix and see how that goes, but I'm not holding my breath. I've had this side/back pain that has ruled my life for 10+ days now and all I get from the doc and tests is that I'm perfectly healthy and everything is normal. Sigh...I don't know what to do. All I know is that I'm tired of feeling like crap and running slow, but it feels like 5K pace!

Anyway...I digress. Lucy got to do the first few loops with me, but then she tired out and I dropped her off and grabbed a drink, it was 10:30 by then and a little warm. I went and finished up, but at the end of my 5th loop I saw my neighbors dog about a 1/4 mile away and they never let him out. I tried to get him to run home with me, but he wouldn't. I ran home and got Lucy's leash and went out looking for him. I spent the last mile+ trying to track him down, but couldn't find him (why I went .4 longer than expected). True to dog fashion after I'd gone home told the kids at home and offered to drive them to go find Dex, guess who comes trotting around the corner? yup...Dex.

It was a nice run besides feeling like crap and things did get feeling a bit better after 4 miles, but I was still slow as sludge and it felt HARD. Afterward came home packed up the fam and went to Cowabunga Bay and had a fun afternoon in the sun and water. What a great water park!

AP: 9:35 splits: 9:19, 9:44, 9:46, 9:34, 9:29, 9:30, 9:59 (looking for Dex and not really thinking about pace).

Don't forget RHPC tomorrow!!! YAY!!!!

I look forward to this race every year and this year did NOT disappoint. When we lined up, I knew there would be some tough competition, but I was prepared for a fight. I finally quit smoking so that my lungs didn't hold me back - time to show 'em the guns! I took off like nobody's business and you'd almost say no one knew I was even around. There were a few people ahead of me at the turn around, but I caught Merri and the race was on! Merri and I were neck and neck all the way down the canyon with Lily just ahead. She didn't know how close we were because she was plugged into her ipod. Must have been some really inspirational tunes, she surged and was gone. In the last 100M to the finish I was able to out sprint Merri to the finish and crossed the mat before she did. Lily took home the Rooster, but she better watch out, because next year I'm stealing her playlist!

***okay, so I wasn't 2nd place, but it sure makes for a good story, eh?***

My sister bye-wing wasn't sure last night if she would come or not, but I was happy to see her text that she would meet me and we could carpool down. Even if I was running 10+ min late. She drove, because the plan was for her to run her 10K long run then bike up the canyon. Well, the best laid plans....

Got to the park just in time to say some hellos before we were off. I ran with bye-wing to the 10K turn around, but then she surprised me and said she wanted to do a couple more K...uh huh, the endurance running bug has bit! She made it to Vivian Park (bathrooms and water, good place to turn!) and when she saw she was so close to 5 decided to go to 5 and make it an even 10..MILES! If she was still feeling so good going uphill, I knew she'd be okay going down.  I left her there to finish off my last 1.5 miles until the turn around. It was fun seeing all the other runners as they were heading down. I tried convincing them to do a few more to run with me, but no one bit. dang. Until poor Merri came along. She didn't know what she was in for! :)

I went to the turn around and it was nice to finally be heading down the canyon. It was SO nice to have Merri there. I may have spontaneously combusted if I didn't have someone to whine at on the way back. I was also glad to have someone 'pulling' me down the canyon and keeping my legs moving. Stopped for a GU back at Vivian and a drink at the eternal flow fountain. Merri, thanks again for such a great run and for sticking out the slow slogging miles with me. I should've warned you what a whiner I've been lately before you agreed to run with me. I remember why I love to run now, because I love hanging out with wonderful people like YOU!

About 1.5 from the end bye-wing called and had gotten lost on the way down and missed the turn off. I'm glad she called! So, her 10 miler ended up 10.5 or more. I am SO proud of how well she did. I couldn't have gone from 6 miles to 10!! NO WAY! The first time I ran 10 miles I came home and barfed. I knew that was my limit! But she just carried on and finished it out despite running extra. SO amazing! I love my sisters, they are both a huge inspiration to me. I was pleased with the pace I was able to keep with Merri on the way down, it's been a long time since I've seen that many 8's. Maybe there is something left in this body after all.

When we finished the run we sat around like usual and had a great chatting fest (as my husband would say...a lot of clucking going on). I can't even begin to name all the wonderful people I got to hang with, chat with, stretch with and best part?!? EAT with!!! I had such a wonderful time being with all you amazing ladies! (and Twinkies and Eric :) ).

AP: 9:40 splits: 11:14, 11:40, 11:38, 11:10, 11:17, 9:18, 8:47, 8:27, 8:35, 8:24, 8:26, 8:29, 8:27, 8:42(last .3)

It was great to see and chat with SO many of my favorite runners today. Marion and all others - thank you SO much for the time/effort/money you put into doing this every year. It is the run I look forward to every year and wouldn't miss for the world. THANK YOU for making it wonderful!!!

Now I'm off to a wonderful day hanging out with the family for my oldest son's birthday! The big SEVEN. Man, I'm getting old - maybe I need a cane.
