Short-Term Running Goals: Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal. It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :) I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!
Long-Term Running Goals:
Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Personal: 4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!
Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free! I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front. After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM. Favorite Blogs: |

| | Hubby is out of town, a little good and a little bad. It is nice not having to rush home so he can get off to work and kids are off school, so I don't have to worry about them; however, I worry about my kids being home alone while I'm away biking and running. If something happened to me they'd be orphans! I worry a lot. QoH (queen of the Hill) bike ride early this morning. I forget the "feels 10 degrees cooler on the bike" rule sometimes. I was cold. But, I got through it! Wasn't too bad once the sun came up. Did this one faster than I have in times past which feels good. I was at 16.8 mph. I really wanted to break 17, but we took a different way home and I couldn't power down the hill like I normally do, and I forgot to stop my watch a couple times on re-groups. Oh well, gives me something to shoot for next time! 21.3 miles up and over Camp Williams. Came home and my feet were still numb and cold! Changed into running shoes and took off for an 8 mile loop. I'd decided to do the Pumpkin run route from my house, which is basically the trails in Herriman, HOMM ran them as well. (as a side note, someday I want to run the HOMM course - mile 16 is at my house, so I want to follow the signs weaving through all the trails to figure it out!) My feet were finally 95% back to normal when I stopped at the turn around for a drink...mile 4! It was cold.
Nice decent downhill to start (with a few rollers thrown in for good measure) and then a good uphill push home, and I added the cove loop on as well to push past 8 and ended up at 8.5 exactly with a nice downhill finish, excellent. AP: 8:05 splits: 8:31, 7:40, 8:01, 7:43, 8:13, 8:41, 8:20, 7:33, 7:57 (last .5) I'm quite impressed with myself that 8:40 was my slowest mile, I really thought I'd be more in the 9's! I might take the kids swimming this afternoon and do a few laps myself...we shall see.

| | 10 mile daybreak loop with the Herriman Highlands Group (yes, I've taken it upon myself to name the group. No one knows it yet, but me). Chad, Paul, George, Ronnie "Todd Newton" and myself. I was SO tired after 15 minutes of getting ready I still couldn't open my eyes all the way in the light, I almost fell asleep putting my shoes on as I sat on the floor and barely made it the 10 min. drive to the meeting point. I really need to get to bed earlier. I could have stopped and fallen asleep on the side of the road at any point during this run and really wanted to run with my eyes CLOSED! :) I don't think I've ever really caught up from Saturday's 2:30 wake up call. Anyway, it was a bad run and I couldn't keep up with the group. Someone was always willing to hang back with me though, awesome groupies! Then the last 4-5 miles my stomach was cramping up on me. Blech. I just wanted it over with SO bad. Finished up not loving the run this morning and dreaming of going home to sleep. Plan was to go do lap swimming this morning afterward until I had to pick up my work at 9:00, but I was just too tired. So, swim got knocked off the schedule today and I didn't get it in yesterday either. Maybe tonight...ha, famous last words. AP: 8:25 splits: 8:35, 8:23, 8:15, 8:25, 8:53 (the hill mile, surprised it isn't a 10!), 8:45, 8:16, 8:15, 8:15, 8:09 - a little progressive finish. Nice. I think what I need to realize is that somehow I've gotten faster these past few months. Since my recovery from my fracture things have just gone really well...and no aches/pains/injures to speak of (knock on wood)! I think this is a good sign and I hope I can keep getting crappy runs to clock in under 8:30! :)

I kept waking up in a panic last night. I guess I was nervous about getting up in time for the ride at 5:30. The last time I woke it was 4:30, I had 10 more min to sleep...relax and wait for the beep. Well, I woke up at 5:29 - crap! I guess my body just needed the sleep. My friend called me at 10:40 last night as I was crawling into bed (see, I TRIED to get to bed early), just having a rough day - daughter's wedding and her father will probably pass today. She had a lot to talk about. The only good thing is that I knew the ladies were riding up Rose Canyon, so I got ready and left from my house and just rode up and down 6400W until they came by. Kind of nice not to have to drive anywhere :) Climbed Yellow Fork and I was the one in the back - okay, so the other ladies are crazy riders and really good, but still. The nice thing is they would wait for me, but I wouldn't need to stop so I didn't make their stops long. I truly believe the bike is the great equalizer. Old can compete with young and 'big' people have more weight to drag uphill, but on the downhill...we FLY! :) it all evens out in the end. I ended up doing the Rose Canyon Climb, the climb up and over Kennecott, and then from the Rec center a gradual, but constant climb home. My mph were only 14.7, but we did just mosey on a few of the flats. Either way, it was fun stuff and I got 24 miles in without even having to drive anywhere and I slept in an extra hour! The plan was to head right out for a 5-6 mile run, but my friend again called. Dad was rushed into emergency surgery. Anyway, after another listening session I finally got out (about an hour later) for my run. During my time in the house my garmin said it had lost satellites, but I know it just automatically reconnects so I didn't think about it. If it shows you how much I look at my garmin, I didn't look to see where I was at until past mile 3. It never re-connected to satellites! I had no distance or speed...just time. crap. Well, I figured I would just run until about 54 min and hope I hit 6 miles. I had to keep winding through the neighborhood to get to 54 minutes. I finally stopped at 53:30 right at home and called it good. Pulled up map my run...I was at 6.83 miles. Whaaa?!? I don't believe it. This is a hard uphill run and there is no way I did it at 7:50 AP. Nope, don't believe it. Well, since I was so close to 7, I checked to see where map my run would hit 7 and I grabbed Lucy and ran the last .17 down the street, then walked home. Did that in 45 seconds which brings my TT: 54:15 and my AP: 7:45. Again...I don't believe it. I know yesterday I talked about how much faster I feel like I've gotten and how even hard runs seem to be faster, but I just really don't believe this. I looked at the point where I read my 26 minutes on my watch and map my run says that is about mile 3.3 and not remembering seconds or knowing exactly where I looked, I'm guessing, but it says that was around an 8mm and I don't run that fast up that hill. I'm telling you! I've NEVER run that fast up that hill (except with Paul and Chad 6ish weeks ago, but we only did 1/2 of the hill). I just don't see it happening. So, I don't know what went wrong, or if I really did just run that fast, but I just don't believe it. On a side note...for some awesome 'super girl' pics from Saturday - look HERE

| | Urban Trail Loop with the Herriman Highlanders (Chad, George, Paul (no Ringo), Ronnie, Christine and Charles dropped in). Nice chatty run and felt good and easy. I figured I'd probably be up around a 9mm. I really don't know how I'm running so fast (for me) and not feeling it. AP: 8:39 splits: 9:10, 9:02, 8:37, 8:15, 8:51(this is where the trail starts and I never stop my watch as maneuver around fences and such, so it kind of surprises me it was slow...but I don't think it was all running slow), 8:36, 8:29, 8:12. Nice progressive finish. Now I've got baby's 2 year well child check. Man, I can't believe it has been two years since I had him! Time flies. I guess I've still got a week to make it officially two years, but still. I do have an appointment to meet bye-wing at the newly opened reservoir for a swim in my new wet suit at noon!! yipee!! let's hope it fits.

| | Poo. seriously, a crappy run. crap, crap and crapier. I don't know if I'm not getting enough sleep (probably most likely), I'm getting sick (kids were sick last weekend, so probable) or I just can't run long anymore (my deepest fear). 6 miles up corner canyon - 1400 ft of elevation gain in the 3 miles up. A decent 11ish pace on the way up and I didn't really open it up on the way down, but kept it steady. I forgot to start my watch for the last mile, so I don't have stats completely. I was tired and feeling weak, but had to get my long run in! 5 miles - from the equestrian center parking lot down to the PRT and then down to the park where it starts, around the park and back up. Stopped at mile 4 and thought about just being done. I had to will myself nearly every step. I was going to do another 2 out and back on the part to the point, but I decided I needed fuel. So, I'd finish up at home. Famous last words. Was practically falling asleep in the car. When I got home I thought I'd just crash for 20 min until the kids started bugging me and then take them out on their bikes to finish up the last 4ish. Nope, slept for TWO hours! For the next 3 hours every time I'd stand up I'd get light headed and couldn't really focus. So, I sat in my boys' closet and helped them clean (chuck, donate, keep...chuck, chuck, chuck, donate, keep...repeat). Long run = fail. AP (for the PRT): 8:37 splits: 8:29, 8:19, 8:46, 8:35, 8:54 - I can't believe I was that fast. I seriously felt like I was running through mud. I was SO tired and exhausted!

16 bike miles from my house to mtn view corridor and then to the end of the unopened section toward Lehi and home. With a little extra loop up to Blackridge and around the Cove on the way home. My friend Steph who is doing Spudman with me is killing the bike! She is going to kick my trash!

-Will Rogers Today, I got to be the cheerleader! Lauren (11) had her second tri and although I could've raced, I decided to make the day hers. I had such a great time standing at the top of the hill behind South County Pool and cheering on runners. I'd yell "no walking! Dig Deep! Finish strong! Put it all out there! You got this! Top of the hill baby!!" as I rang my cow bell. I loved the smiles and the people that would start running again. My favorite comment was "you need to get paid to do this!" No, your extra push I can see you giving and the smile on your face is the only reward I need! I know what it is like to be on the other side, and I hope not a single runner got by me without feeling motivated. I did that for the adult race as I watched bye-wing and her son finish, then again as Lauren and bye-wing's two younger ones raced. I also followed Lauren along, cheering at the swim, T1, bike, T2 and run. My niece took 2nd overall! What a rockstar! My 8 yr old nephew took 1st in his AG and Lauren took 5th in her AG! For not ever really practicing and just getting out and doing it (she swims on the swim team, but doesn't really run and doesn't bike except for fun), she did an awesome job! I am so proud of my little triathlete. I want to be a cheerleader more often now :) Perfect morning. perfect.
