Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

I'd like to say things felt good, but they didn't. Very sore and tired and I think everything has finally caught up to me. I have Moab to pace at 1:45 this weekend, so I'm not going to push the envelope.

What does a broken, achy runner do when they need a recovery? Bike of course! I biked from my house to Mtn View, out to Porter Rockwell, all the way North to 5400S and then back home along the Corridor. My garmin died at mile 27, so I don't know for sure how long the ride was, but I'm guessing around 35, because it died just in front of the Oracle data center my hubby used to work at and he said it was 8 miles from home. average speed was 17.3 up to that point, which was good considering all the hills were done and the wind was finally at my back as well.

When I stopped, I stopped because there was another biker on the side of the trail finishing up a tire change. I asked if she needed anything and she said she was good to go and was heading up Butterfield. She looked like a killer biker and I was worried about keeping up with her, but we hit a good rhythm riding next to each other and chatting. She bikes the canyon pretty much every day and invited me to come along with her anytime. Score! We exchanged phone numbers just as I took off home, because she had no more tubes left and had a small hole in her tire from the metal piece that popped the tube. I told her I'd be home and willing to help her if she needed anything on her ride...including a ride home :)

A good, strong ride! Felt good to get out, which I don't say very often on the bike!

Legs are still no bueno. I need sleep and recovery! Anyway, I bailed on the full Shaggy Mountain run, because I wasn't into a date run :) Chad was the only taker. So, I ran 2 miles back on the course and met him and ran the last two back in with him. Easy day, back to sleep. Ugh. I need my legs to come back to me!

So...I was going to run a few miles with Amy this AM nice and easy before Moab tomorrow, but I had a change in plans around 8PM. Craig left for China this morning, so I should've known something fun was going to happen!

I went to the temple sealing of a great family in our ward and they had a reception at the church pavillion afterward so I took the kids as we headed out to go to the library and the grocery store for some non-spicy toothpaste for David. HA! Adam started crying and after a minute when he didn't stop I went over to see what the matter was. Ummm....his forearm was bent! I knew from the first look that his arm was broken and that I had a long night ahead of me.

A couple of brothers at the reception helped give Adam a blessing, Lauren took the other 2 boys home and I headed up to Primary Childrens. Adam fell asleep in the car. Luckily, I had the stroller in the car, because I'd met Smooth for a nice walk in S Jordan while Larry was in dialysis. We spent the rest of the night in the hospital. A very long night including x-rays, waiting, sedation, meds, loopy little boy ON meds, manual reset of the bones in his arm, soft casting, waiting for recovery, getting meds and finally heading home. I did stop at the store on the way home at 4:00 in order to get the all important non-spicy toothpaste so that David would brush his teeth.

Needless to say, going to bed at 5AM isn't normal for me. Sometimes I wake up at 5 to run, sometimes I go to bed at 5AM! So, I slept, got boys off to school (thankfully Lauren's last day was yesterday!) and went back to bed until I HAD to wake up to get packed and ready to drive to Moab. I was able to arrange it so that Lauren came with me and could watch Adam while I ran. I also drove JaNae and Kimberly. It was a fun ride down and they were both very accomodating to the ornery little boy with the broken arm!

I ended up sleeping on the floor with Adam and gave Lauren my spot in a bed, because I didn't want him to wake up in pain and bother anyone in the room. Not ideal, but it was better than cancelling on the pace job or having Adam at someone else's house!

I love this race! I really love it! Odd circumstances led to Kimberly and JaNae actually NOT pacing the race, but they were good sports about it and just went on a trail run near the start while we paced. I was more than a little bummed to not only be pacing alone, but to feel like the two people helping to pay me for gas really didn't need to be there. Anyway...

Adam and Lauren were good and asleep when we left and I'd left some $ for Lauren to get muffins for the two of them in the morning. I am SO grateful for that amazing girl. SO grateful! We got to the race start, got our signs and lined up to get things going. Their start is always fun and it didn't disappoint! We were off. I felt really bad the first mile-ish, because there was a girl that was obviously hanging with me and she started asking me questions before I could really breathe! I almost wanted to hand the pace sign to her :) it just took me a bit to fall into a rhythm.

Mile markers were on (except one) and the out was beautiful, temps were perfect, drummers were awesome and the people around me were doing great and we were having a good race! At the turn around I only had 2 ladies left with me and the one that had been chatting since the beginning I asked her how she was doing and suggested, due to her response, she take a gu. Only problem is the next station had one, but she dropped it and she had to stop. I lost my last lady. The other one had gone just a bit ahead.

I was lonely and alone, but seeing all my peeps coming the other way kept my mind on the game and I also saw Steph! I knew earlier she'd talked about coming with a friend to help her do her first half, but hadn't heard she was for sure doing it. I wanted to turn and run with her right there! But, I kept going.

Mile 10ish I caught up to one girl and ran with her for a bit, encouraging and hopefully helping her, but she stopped to drink at the aid-station and I knew I was pretty close to pace and didn't have time. I didn't pass anyone else the rest of the race and I loved that as the fastest pacer as I came in the announcer said "wow! right on time. what a great pacer!" I took a nice little bow as I ran in :) it was incredible! Finished just about 20 seconds early, just perfect! I was glad that as crappy as my legs and week had been that I was able to make it and make it look easy :) at least I hope I do!

We got back to the hotel, cleaned up and headed home. Adam was good on the drive home and I had just an incredible experience with JaNae and Kimberly! I seriously love long drives with good friends. I could do them all the time!!! Good excuse to chat away.

We got home and had a bapstism to get to and after that I was just wiped out. So were my boys who had stayed with a neighbor and stayed up ALL night! So, we had an early bed time so that we all didn't fall asleep or rip each other's heads off at church the next day :)
