Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Well, I did something completely out of character for me today. I stopped listening to the PT and threw all caution to the wind. I wanted to run just a few miles to see how things would go...just a few.

I'd planned the morning so I could do 1 hr cardio then spin class then finish with another hour of cardio work. Well, I figured I'd try the miles first, because if I had any pain it would just get worse (I wasn't feeling much/any pain this morning to begin with mind you), so do the running while I felt good. I sure felt good, so I kept on running... 5 miles in 44 min (8:48 AP - started at 8:57 and the last mile was progressive). Then it was off for a quick spin.

There were some other teachers in the class that Jenn felt the need to impress, so the class was tough. Hills, but had to keep cadence pace as well - not to mention that she doesn't let you out of the saddle for the first 30 minutes. Then it was off to the last hour of cardio...

Leg was feeling good, so I thought "I'll just do 6 miles, just 6...or maybe 7 like 2 weeks ago and see how it goes" Well, I just kept on running for the full hour. It felt SO good! I would constantly take inventory and make sure no (more) pain was creeping in and that my form was good with driving knees and toe push - no more shuffling for me! I started again at 8:57 pace and after 3 or 4 miles kept increasing the pace. Mile 5 was started at 8:16 pace and mile 6 was started with an even 8:00, then with .5 left I went to 7:53, .25 was at 7:30, then .15 was at 6:58 - finished with an AP of 8:37 which isn't too shabby given A: all I'd done the 2 hours before hand and B: the majority of the run was at a 9mm.

I went to roll out my quad (which still wasn't feeling too bad) before I left and there was a massage therapist loitering around trying to peddle his services. I chatted him up a little and put him to work on my quad - WOW! Totally made the gym fee this month worth it. A 20 min free massage and he did some really good hip flexor releases and stretches. I think I may need to call MY massage therapist now and make an appointment!

Came home feeling good and energized, there is a little lingering adductor/quad tightness or whatnot, but overall it doesn't feel any worse than after a normal workout and about 90% better than the last Saturday I ran. I am now not so worried that Ogden is going to be a complete disaster.

Is throwing caution to the wind really out of character for you?

From RAD on Sat, Apr 30, 2011 at 20:24:58 from 98.202.17.113

Scott, Amen!

Smooth, I think I like the midget, magnet and monk. I may have to get some t shirts made :)

Carolyn, maybe it was more of the "stop listening to the PT" part that is out of character?

I am very happy for you!!! I bet you are still on a wonderful endorphin high!! Nothing like a good run after you have been restricted from running. :)

Congratulations!! I'm glad that you were able to run. With all the cross training you didn't slow down a bit.

Devine Miss M - ice from the inside out, have some ice cream to celebrate, back in the saddle. Good luck at Ogden.

You must have killer quads after all those spinning classes.
