Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

I started out not really thinking that anything would come from this 'race' - I guess now I just feel like I shouldn't underestimate myself.

I didn't really taper, but didn't push like I normally do through a week with cross-training...just regular running with Friday off. I haven't really done much, if any, real speed work. But, I just wasn't feeling the love of racing or even running today. I figured if all went well I could hit a 1:40-1:45.

When the gun went off I was between the 1:35 and 1:40 pacers...so I figured I'd just try to stay there and not let Christy pass me :) The 1:35 pacers quickly disappeared and I was running scared of those 1:40 pacers the whole time. After mile 3ish I paced out and besides passing a few women, the same group of people stuck right with me the whole time. My 'pacer' was about 10-20ft in front of me the whole race. I passed her once at an aid station, but she quickly regained her 10ish feet.

I felt stronger on the hills than I expected and the quick glance at the splits showed I stayed at a good pace - 7:45 I think is the slowest, but I've got to get home and dump it to see. My laps did fill (I forgot to delete!) so, I only have up to split 9. Oh well. No worries. Except I am kind of bummed that I missed my last .1 push to the finish. I dug deep on that one! Anyway, the group around me didn't pull away on the hills - I was able to keep up with the 'group' on the tons of uphills. Made me feel like I haven't lost too much over my easy hiatus this winter.

I felt like I had a good push on the race and was happy with my finish time, but now I keep thinking I should've gone harder :) But, I think we always do that. The good news is that I was really nervous and trained pretty hard to hit a 1:36:40 at SLC half in April and I pulled just one minute slower today on a tough/honest course. So, that has to be a good sign that my legs still remember how to run fast and long? right?

After the race I hung out and chatted with the tons of peeps there. Then, I ran the mile back to the hotel. Made the kids lunch, ate a bit myself and rejoiced over my 2 year old going #2 in the potty by himself. Almost ready to call this a success. Then the kids wanted me gone, because dad said they could go swimming after I left for my bike ride.

Met Brent, Di, Sue, Polly and Heather by the fishing pond on the way to Snow Canyon. Did a loop around Ivins and Kayente then headed up Snow Canyon. Thanks to the SL County Library we had an annual State Parks Pass and got all of us in free (Brent did have his own pass too). Rode to the top of the canyon - a good push! Then down the marathon course back to Snow Canyon Blvd and then the fishing pond. Wow! That downhill was awesome. I like riding it more than running it :) I added a few more miles on by biking back to the hotel (mostly all downhill), Bluff is a nasty street to ride on! So, I jumped over to Main Street and took it down to Abbey Inn. I didn't feel like I was going to die on that road :) 33 miles total with a ton of climbing.

Then I took the kids swimming...yes, they went again. I spent most of the time in the hot tub and just relaxed, and sweat some more :) What a wonderful day! I wish every Saturday was so easy with kids and that I could just play all day like this!!

My legs are tired now, I can tell. I get winded and they burn by the top of the third floor :) Can't wait for a big breakfast tomorrow!!

You are AWESOME!!! We couldn't stop talking about how amazing your running has been and you continue to get better, faster and stronger! Your work ethic and love of the sport really rock and seriously it shows in your race (even when you didn't "race" nor "do speedwork") Enjoy and reap the reward of your good work! :) HUGE SMILES on my face about your heavenly day down in SG. :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

It does sound like a wonderful day! Nice job on the run and bike ride. Glad your hotel had a hot tub for you to relax in. I'll bet breakfast was delicious :-)

Very nice race, you are coming on strong right now. This year is looking good for you.

Really great run - that's a super strong time (in january!) on that course! Well done!

From Bonnie on Sun, Jan 20, 2013 at 17:59:33 from 196.3.39.209

Nice ... with just a couple or three weeks of some race specific training you easily could have run under that 1:36 ... your legs definitely know how to run fast!

From Teena Marie on Sun, Jan 20, 2013 at 18:12:50 from 75.165.251.79

WOW!!!! What an excellent race. 2013 is going to be an amazing racing year for you!! What a testament to your fitness level, especially considering what you were able to do after the race. It'll be exciting to see what killer times you are going to pull out of yourself these next handful of races.

Congrats!! :)

So awesome RAD! Think of last year and how far you have come in a year. 2013 will be even better for you Rachel. Save a few longs runs for me while I am there and maybe a race or two. ;) Thinking that Fargo will be one of the highlights for me this year because I will get to spend a lot of time with you.

Great bike ride too, just hard core, that's all. Why didn't you swim back and forth in the pool while your kids swam? Could have just done somewhat of a half Ironman.

pretty sure we will be running 30 for my 30th. I would love you to join in this amazing weather, understand if you can't make it. ;) Just putting the invitation out there.

Wow, Rachel, congratulations!!! You are in great shape if you can run a half that fast and then ride your bike up Snow Canyon. I missed seeing you again. I ran the 5k while my wife did the half. I'm glad my kids aren't the only crazy ones wanting to go swimming.

Congrats on a great race girl! I honestly think you will go 1:35 at SLC considering what you ran on this course plus you will have a little more training for the year. Just have to stay mentally strong going up that dang state street at the end.

What a great training day as well. I agree with you, deciding down the marathon course is amazing! Next time we will have to ride it together.

FUN, FUN, FUN DAY!! Why can't we just road trip it to St. George every single weekend? Fantastic race for you and a great benchmark to know you ran this well this early in the season. It is definitely a very honest course and there isn't a doubt in my mind that you could hold that pace for a full this year. Great things to come for you in 2013!

So glad you got the bike ride in and hiking too right?

From RachelT on Mon, Jan 21, 2013 at 18:54:43 from 24.10.224.129

You did such a great job. Congrats on making top ten in your age. Good things to come for you this year for sure.

Smooth, I wish I could've had more time with you down in the sun!!

Brent, until Boston hills will be the name of the game. ugh.

QP, breakfast was heavenly! I want to live down there...at least for a couple weeks.

Flat, thanks! I just feel so out of sorts right now...kind of aim-less, so it doesn't feel right, but I hope it eventually translates to more for me.

Jake, thanks. I remember being worried about hitting that time and having you 'coach' me on workouts to get to that time in SLC half!

Bonnie, I just wish they'd remember a little more on off days :)

Teena, it always seems with a little rest I can always do a little more! But, I think you know how that goes.

Becca, FARGO, FARGO, FARGO! WOOT WOOT! I always have a long run on reserve for you. I'll come to your birthday run if you come to mine :)

Dale, you were running with my kiddos! :) I wish I would've seen you too.

Christie, I won't be racing SLC this year with Boston 5 days earlier. But, I do feel like I could blow 1:35 on SLC right now seeing as I nearly did that Saturday on a harder course. I'm just glad you didn't ever catch me :) Yes, next time I won't pansie out on you because I'm sore and sleep in!!

Rachelle, Yes, please! St George every weekend for the next few!! Yeah, a few little family hikes :)

Rachel, I was surprised to break top 10 in my AG - that is hard to do at this race. So, Thanks!
