Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Holy Moly, I'd forgotten how nasty that canyon is! I did end up heading up Butterfield canyon and unfortunately the canyon was open. Luckily we didn't see many cars.

Met Cal and Annette bright and early and we headed up to the canyon. After just the first one mile climb out of my neighborhood I was exhausted. My only thought was "this is going to be a LONG 6 more miles" and I didn't disappoint :)

I dropped water at the canyon gate and I'm glad I did. I wished I had brought it to the top! The canyon starts nice and easy with some rollers and it was SO beautiful! Shade, babbling brook, quiet, cool breeze, beautiful flowers in bloom. Amazing! Then the real work starts about 2.5-3 miles up the canyon. Oh, those rollers stopped and it was climbing...just climbing. I felt like I was just crawling up the road. But, I knew I had to make it so I just pressed on!

Finally reached the 4 mile turn around and wow...I was exhausted, but ready to fly downhill, until I did. OUCH! After pushing so hard up, your legs don't like to turn around and pound down! Took a while and a couple flats to get my feet under me again. Then I had a wonderful easy paced run down the canyon where we saw a mom deer and two TINY babies follow her across the street. I've never seen deer that small/young! It was nice to finally chat a bit. There was NO way I could've talked up the canyon.

Stopped at the gate and chugged the rest of my water then headed home. Only 2 little hills to go on the way home. Cardio and breathing were finally happy, but legs still felt like lead. I just keep wondering when running will feel easy again. I think I need to add this run to my schedule more often, and cut off the last 1/2+ mile :)

AP: 9:43 (sad, I know!) splits: 9:50, 9:45, 10:23 (I don't know why this one is so slow), 10:51(start of canyon), 10:59, 11:09, 12:02 (feet were still running...that is all I can say!), 8:42 (downhill? why yes!), 8:38, 8:39, 8:44, 8:43, 8:53, 8:49 total elevation gain on garmin: 2628 ft.

Well, your AP was faster than mine today and I didn't run up a canyon. It's a good thing I'm not there in Utah to run with you because I never would have made it. You will be stronger for having done that run today.

KILLER run!!! :) :) :)

From Smooth on Sat, Jun 25, 2011 at 15:56:18 from 67.2.109.45

WOW!!! That is a monster mountain run! I am so glad I didn't come run with you! It would have taken me twice as long and KILLED me!

You ROCK that run! Park City is gonna be a walk in the park for you! :) GOOD JOB Rachel! :) :) :)

From RAD on Sat, Jun 25, 2011 at 16:02:14 from 98.202.17.113

Carolyn, it took 4 miles of going down the canyon to break a 10mm AP! If it wasn't for those last few it would've been a lot slower.

Teena, honestly, the first few miles of the canyon aren't bad! You should try it sometime. You and Kelli could race each other up :)

Smooth, you will have to try it in prep for PC. Maybe just a 12 miler though. That last mile is the killer! PC will be a good run, but only because I get to hang with you! :)

Sounds very similar to my run. I should have gone with you guys. Awesome!

looks like a tough run (aka excellent training). way to go, RAD!

Great job!! That is a very tough run, especially running from your house. The only part I used to like about that run was the down hill. I used to be able to fly down the canyon.

Great run up the canyon! Your pace is great for such a tough run.

You're really training tough and getting stronger for your upcoming race.

It's nice you had good company for your run.

Sound like a great work out and some great views. That last mile uphill sounds pretty tough, but you're pretty tough too.

That sounds fun.
