Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Actually got up and went to the gym this morning. Yesterday I had a pity party - cookies, m&ms, movie, popcorn, soda....yeah, a good pity party.

Did the modified recumbent/eliptical thing for 40 min, but it really bugs my butt. I don't like it much. So, I moved to the stair climber (it is a modified one, pedals on a 45 degree angle - and my PT said that if no pain and in the boot this would be okay). It was a little better as far as sweaty effort goes, but still not great, just 15 minutes. So, I did a last ditch effort on the bike. Actually worked out really well. Kind of awkward with the boot on, but it doesn't hurt at all. I got a good workout for the 15 minutes - 4.5 miles and tried for the last 5 minutes to keep my mph at or above 18 on level 12. I had a sweaty drippy face after that! Felt great to have crusty sweat drying on my face :)

Total of 70 min cardio work.

Came home and slept - I'm tired and lazy now.

I've always thought about doing a cleanse, but always scared because I need fuel to run! But, since I can't run and my husband is going to be in Singapore for the next 2 weeks I've been thinking this may be the perfect time to do one. Does anyone have any suggestions for me on how to?

i had to read back to see what happened...dang it. i am so sorry, rachel. great job today at the gym and taking some time for a pity party as well. it all helps with the healing process.

as far as a cleanse goes -- you could try a juice fast. also, you could try drinking clay. i wouldn't recommend it, but it definitely works...http://curezone.com/cleanse/bowel/bentonite.html

My friend Becky just did a juice cleanse. Her's seemed somewhat realistic. She only did like 3 days and she lost 5lbs! Here is the link http://www.bringingbeckyback.blogspot.com/2011/12/end-of-juice-fast.html

I have been wanted to try something like this for a while but am way to big of a wuss. I have zero discipline when it comes to my diet.

I have a friend who is a pretty good athlete and does this once a year. About 2 years ago I caught up with him in Boston while he was on the tail end of the 10 days or however long it was. We went running for like an hour or so - I kept waiting for him to bonk, but he never did! He said the key (for him) was to keep the exercise pretty minimal during the time he was doing the cleanse... he was just running 3-4 miles every other day... and he told me by the end of it, he would be super-charged w/ energy.

But I'm like Rachelle - I'd NEVER have the discipline to pull it off!

Allie, YIKES! Now a juice fast would be more up my alley...

Rachelle, I'm not sure I could do all those mixed drink smoothies. I'd rather just eat the veggies/fruit. I'm thinking about getting a book that will walk me through it. Hubby will be out of town and no family stuff to deal with either so I'm thinking this will be a good time! I wouldn't do it to lose weight, but for the true 'cleanse'. I also don't want to buy hundreds of dollars of stuff to do it!

Jake, that is good to know! I'm glad I'm not off my rocker to think about trying it. I figure this would be something I could put my dedication and energy into since I can't run. Same thing as finishing a hard workout - gotta use that mental energy somehow!

So Sorry! It is just so dang hard to wear a boot! I haven't ever done a cleanse...sounds miserable! Relax, watch chick flicks, eat fruits and veggies and heal up!

I'm sorry about your injury. I would have a pity party if it happened to me too, but I really don't need a pity party to pig out on M & M's and candy I already did over Christmas. I'm glad you were able to get some exercise without hurting your foot.

From Lily on Fri, Dec 30, 2011 at 18:53:56 from 67.199.178.210

I say do it. Do the liquid cleanse. You could pull it off. 3 days isn't that hard.

And have more pity parties. Heaven knows I did a year ago. Just don't take it as far as I did and gain 11 lbs. I had to lose it by June and it was kind of hard.

From RAD on Sat, Dec 31, 2011 at 03:26:08 from 98.202.23.178

Steam, that is probably what I should do, but I get too restless!

Nancy, I think the pity party was my after excuse :)

Lily, I think I'm going to try and start on Tuesday. The day after my hubby leaves, we shall see how my will holds out!

From Kelli on Sat, Dec 31, 2011 at 22:48:04 from 71.219.66.129

What is wrong with me? I think 3 hours would be hard! When I am injured, I kind of go on a candy cleanse. ;o)

How did I miss you at the gym again? I was there FOREVER!!! (Because of the candy cleanse! Kidding, I have eaten like a saint this week.)

From RAD on Sun, Jan 01, 2012 at 04:30:13 from 98.202.23.178

Kelli, I am on a candy cleanse - one reason why I think I need to do a cleanse :) I left the gym about 7:45, early schmearly. Hubby thinks he has to work or something.
