Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Started out NOT wanting to run, I knew it would get better if I just gotout and I knew I wouldn't have another opportunity today if I didn't just go, so I went.

I felt good the first few miles and stopped at mile 3 to get a nice little drink before heading up the monster Herriman hill. I actually felt pretty good heading up the hill, so at the top I decided to add a little on. The plan was only for the 8 mile loop, but we all know about the best laid plans...

Headed up to the Herriman Reservior where the Tri was held. Those are some good hills I tell ya! I took a nice flat loop around the water then headed back down to Butterfield Park on the bike route. Only problem was by this time I was regretting not eating beforehand. I was feeling light headed and nauseated. I need to eat before I run. It would come and go, so I just relaxed and enjoyed the beautiful sunrise and watching the sun peek over the tops of the Wasatch. I live in such a gorgeous place! Totally worth the nasty hill climb.

Finsihed out the miles and then since I needed to get home (and I was already behind schedule adding 2 miles on) I took a new shortcut home. Kind of a fun little easement to connect 2 neighborhoods and make it easier for kids to walk to school. It was perfect, ended just over 10 instead of the long way which would've finished around 11. Perfect!

Now I'm sitting in the waiting room at the hospital. Just sent hubby off to have his galbladder taken out. Fun times... Good thing the gym is closed for renovations this week and I don't feel cheated missing FIT class. Yeah, that's my biggest worry this morning...

Since I don't have my Garmin I'll have to update splits later, but I looked and saw AP of 9:16 for the run, which for all those hills and the way I felt on the good downhill sounds pretty good to me!

Very nice early morning run with good hills and miles before the surgery.

I love your new photo. Makes me smile....until I see that juniper bush flowerbed in the background that needs to be weeded!!!!

You sure look cute in that pix. Love bye-wing's suspenders :-)

From Kelli on Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at 14:51:59 from 71.219.67.82

You did climb some nasty hills!!! Good job!

Oh, the darn gall bladder. He will be so much happier when it is gone, but it is a pretty painful out patient surgery. I felt liked I had been stepped on by an elephant for a week or so! Good luck to him!!!

From glidergirl on Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at 14:57:41 from 155.97.238.134

Wow, that is REALLY good for hills! Nice work! Glad you could enjoy the sunrise. I love how you said that missing a class is your biggest worry. Don't worry, you're among fellow addicts. Hope all goes well with the surgery!

From allie on Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at 15:08:22 from 161.38.218.168

nice start to the week! hope everything goes well with your husband's surgery.

From RAD on Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at 15:14:13 from 70.103.189.14

QP, I knew you'd like it :) I'm sitting here in the waiting room and laughed like crazy reading that juniper bush comment!! Oh, that was good. At least it's small in that picture, when it's bigger than you are is when it really gets scary!

Kelli, I just kept thinking "Kelli runs these at an 8 pace...c'mon lazy!" I barely made a 10mm, but did take the side break for a tenth on Rose Crest Dr. I hope he doesn't feel that cruddy! I can't take whiny people, especially adults. I'm NOT a good nurse :)

Brooke, I had a good time talking to the RN in prep and kept thinking about you just finishing school and what an awesome RN you are! Oh, I was being a little sarcastic about the clas...just a little :) We're horribly crazy people, aren't we?

From RAD on Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at 15:15:35 from 70.103.189.14

Allie, I figured I should start my PCM week with some good hills. I had some jiters about the surgery to get out anyway and hills are a great place to do that! He's in recovery now...so far so good.

From Kelli on Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at 15:20:37 from 71.219.67.82

Maybe I was just a wimp, but that surgery kicked my butt! They had to force me out of the hospital!

Um, remember, Rachel, I take breaks up that hill----you go full speed on and just cruise up it all the way. Once again, I am the wimp. ;o)

From RAD on Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at 15:29:31 from 70.103.189.14

Well, I did take the break today and I needed/loved it! You still are the queen of hills in my book.

I told the doc what you said about yours (he called me in while I was typing my first reply) and it made him laugh. I have yet to see Craig, but knowing how he reacted to other surgeries I think I'll be in for a long week...

From Chad on Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at 15:32:57 from 168.177.153.27

Great job. I gotta find me some hills.

From Bonnie on Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at 15:37:09 from 128.196.228.134

RAD ... great job on the hills.

Good luck to your husband. Are they doing the surgery laproscopically? If they are ... it is not a big deal. I was on a plane 3 days after mine (ok, maybe it was dumb since I still have a tiny hernia in the largest incision) ... it will take about 2 weeks and he will feel as good as new! I was so sick leading up to the surgery that the surgery itself was a cakewalk ;-). GOOD LUCK, heres to a speedy recovery!!

From Bonnie on Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at 15:38:16 from 128.196.228.134

BTW ... guys are generally wimpy about these things, so you probably are in for a wild week ;-) (sorry guys it is true)

From Carina on Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at 15:49:34 from 204.15.86.83

Nice work!! Hills are definitely a great workout. I hope everything goes well with the surgery, I'm glad you were able to get those jitters out.

From RAD on Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at 16:09:20 from 70.103.189.14

Chad, I'd be happy to show the hills around here when you're ready!

Bonnie, yes laproscopic. He's taking a full 5 day week off work (which is an eternity for him) and I think he should be good with that, but he is a computer guy, so not much to worry about as far as physical strain is concerned. But, yes men are whimps :) It will be a fun week...

Carina, I do love the hills, but mostly running down them :) Everything went well so far. Now just waiting to go home.

From Kelli on Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at 18:34:50 from 71.219.67.82

Mine was laproscopic (4 incisions). I think it was all of the machines moving around inside of me and then pulling the darn thing out my belly button! I was in some pain. See, TOTAL WIMP!!! My c-sections were less painful.

Hope you are home and that he is resting peacefully.

From Scott Wesemann on Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at 18:37:43 from 205.158.160.209

Good luck to you and your hub this week. Hill are the best!!! Way to get it done.

From Burt on Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at 19:56:32 from 206.19.214.144

Oh...that waiting room.

From Tom Slick on Mon, Aug 15, 2011 at 20:37:31 from 69.171.160.34

Way to attack those hills.....you'll get to see them at PCM for sure!!! Good luck to the hubby! I'm sure that he not a whimp!

From Nancy on Tue, Aug 16, 2011 at 12:49:19 from 76.23.21.118

I'm glad you got your run in before your husbands surgery. I hope all went well.

From RAD on Tue, Aug 16, 2011 at 12:59:02 from 76.27.16.189

Kelli, Craig's is laproscopic as well and he is actually doing pretty well with it all...now.

Scott, I don't know what I was thinking with the hills, I'm sure I'll get plenty at PCM on Saturday!

Burt, it could've turned into a funeral waiting room, but thankfully it didn't :)

Slick, so far he is holding his own and can't be called a wimp. I don't mind admitting I was wrong.

Nancy, it did all go well, thanks!

From Scott Wesemann on Tue, Aug 16, 2011 at 16:48:03 from 205.158.160.209

You're doing the PCM? Fun!
