Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:


Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

I'm falling asleep as I type this... So, I hope the grammar police have the day off!

Early miles with the BBK's (my 4yr old did get up, but I learned my lesson! Gave him tylenol and he's been asleep since). The warm up was nice and easy, which doesn't always happen with these speedsters! Then we went to the track for speed work. I, of course, still have no relative speed in my legs, but pushed through anyway.

400's with a 200 recovery. I have no idea how fast anything was, except my miles were AP at about 8:30ish. So, a lot slower than it should've been, but whatever.

The everyone else did a tempo mile, but I just went out and back, then did a repeat with the group afterward. Only planned on 9 miles, but ended with 10 - peer pressure!

AP:  9:13 splits: 9:42, 9:12, 9:39, 9:26, 8:35, 8:43, 8:37, 9:19, 9:32, 9:23, 6:32 (last 22 feet :) ).

Working my way back, slowly, but surely. I think I'm so tired I just may be done for the day....

Devine Miss M - you know, workouts are not always measured by time, splits, a good effort when you don't have it, may be worth more than a good effort when you do have it. I have always thought, those not so good days pay off in races, learn to run when you don't have ite. Long story short - good effort, 10 miles is 10 miles. What would happen if you ignored your splits, avg pace for one week, this is a challenge, run how you feel, leave the watch or garmin at home, count how many birds you see, how many roses still in bloom, try if for one week, let you attitude drive your running.

Brent, I usually don't pay attention to pace and just finish with what I've got and simply use the Garmin for distance. But, it is hard when you're with a group on the track and everyone keeps lapping you, because you can't even hit your half marathon pace in a 400! Pride and guilt overtake me. I should just take off from the group, but don't know my way around and they are usually the driving force to get me out of bed! :) I am pleased with my effort and that I was able to pick things up even if for just a 400. I must be patient with myself, but it is hard when 6 months ago I was in SO much better shape! Can't blame this one on the baby.

Hey, I'm doing the blackridge tri with bye-wing on 7/30. Aren't you doing it as well? Any pointers? I need to find something I can swim in and run in...as well as a bike. This may warrant a PM :)

WOW 10 miles again!!! i don't think I have ever done double digits back to back! NICE JOB and effort on the SW! I have yet to do one SW this year! Very solid training, Rachel!

I hope you got that nap! Sleep and rest is a vital part of training! You won't improve or worse get burn out if you don't get enough sleep! It is during rest that your body absorbs the hard work you've put it through! You already know that, right?

Julie, I think I could've tolerated the humidity and speed if my legs were cooperating! :) It was nice when the sprinklers from the field would splash on the track - I'd always try to time it right!

Carina, sigh, no nap for me. BUT, I did go pick up a bike - trade off I guess. Maybe it will help me get to bed early now.

Smooth, I rarely do it and yesterday's was kind of cheating since it was 2 separate workouts. I do know about the rest, it is putting that knowledge into action that is the hard part! Once the kiddos go to bed I like my 'alone' time with hubby and it never seems long enough when I have to go to bed early.
