Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:


Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

Man oh man, my quads and the TOP of my feet are sore. I've never had the tops of my feet/front of my ankles sore before, so I don't know what I did to do that, but I'm feeling it! So, I decided to deviate a little from my normal routine and take things easy to help recovery and not push and injure myself. 

Did the elliptical for 50 min on L12 4.5 miles (nice and easy...)

Then I decided to do the TM instead of going to FIT class. I love the bosu work, but decided some easy miles would be better than a beat down. 5 miles in 45 min - 9mm AP. Started at a 10mm and just worked my way down as the first mile wore on and did the majority of the run at 8:57 with a little faster finish to get the 5 in within the 45 min time.

Stretched and came home. Now off for a good week's worth of housecleaning - blech!

Taking it easy sounds like a good plan. I don't know what the tops of the feet hurting could be unless you've been wearing shoes that are too tight.

Have fun with the house cleaning. I should taking another week off work and clean my house.

Carolyn, it's funny - it is like sore muscles sore. It runs from about the top of the laces to lower shin all right on the front of the foot. Just a new ache I found after the race, no pain just ache.

I'm obviously putting off the housework in lieu of blogging time right now, if that tells you how motivated I am right now...

Cal, I haven't decided. YOU? I don't want to race it, but I hate to pay for a race as a 'trainer' too. However, if I don't run it I think I'll have to do 16 alone...so I don't know. I also don't want 'race mentality' to take over and go too fast and hard and end up injuring myself. Still undecided....

As of today I'm still undecided. (it would be a $30 trainer for me too!) A couple of friends are trying to talk me into it. Definitely wouldn't be racing...

NICE recovery run!

Sounds like your tibial tendon on the top of the foot is a bit sore! You will be fine with some rest!

Be careful with racing too much too soon! GOOD LUCK with the house cleaning...mine needs a deep spring cleaning!

Cal, I will if you will...then we can just take it easy? I'm thinking shooting for a mid 8 AP wouldn't be too bad? I wouldn't even mind throwing in a few tempo miles either if we're up for it! LMK what you think.

Smooth, the anterior tibialis looks like the culprit. It really isn't pain so much as just a sore muscle ache, so I think I just worked it hard somehow in the race that my running stride isn't used to. I will take it easy though, I'm trying to find this balance between rest and recovery so that I can survive the Grand Slam this year INJURY FREE!

I think it is good that you took it easy today since you were so sore. I think you should run the Riverton 1/2. You will be running with all your friends and I might even see you at the start.

Did you have your shoes laced a bit tighter than normal by chance? I have done that before and had similar soreness.

The tops of your feet probably hurt because you ran so stinkin' fast at the Spectrum 10k. I've noticed whenever I run races, that happens to me and whenever I do speedwork, too.

Allie, Riverton Park about 1:50 after the race starts :) Well, okay you may see Chad and the rope before that, but you probably won't see me until then.

Scott, I was thinking about that and I actually ran in a new-ish pair of shoes and I noticed taking them off that they aren't laced the same as all my others, so it may have something to do with that!

Dale, nice to see you back! Missed your comments around! Who knows why, but I know I won't be running that fast for quite some time now!

QP, I had good company on the TM - finally making some 'friends' at the gym to talk to. Housework - ppbbbtt!
