Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:


Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

BBBBLLLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Okay, I think I need to change something. This is the second time I've tried to run long and blown it. Poor Becca had to drag me through these 18 miles as I was just blah, thinking things would get better, but they didn't. Why am I able to have some decent TM runs and speed work, but then my long runs DIE? I guess I'm just feeling exhausted and frustrated.

Other than feeling like I struggled through the whole run it was nice. Perfect day with just a l/s shirt and the sun stayed behind the clouds so it wasn't too hot. The company was good (although I probably wasn't), and I now am VERY excited to see 127 hours :)

AP: 8:52 splits: 8:53, 8:40, 8:40, 8:43, 8:15, 8:40, 8:47, 8:39, 8:43, 8:31, 9:14, 9:09 9:05, 9:01, 9:44, 9:36 (ugghhh...the hill of despair and I DIED big time!!),  8:39, 8:32, (6:28 for the last 25 feet until I hit the stop button - gotta throw something good in there!).

I think I'm going to pull a much lower mileage week next week and not do much resistance so that I can taper for Spectrum and hopefully hit my goal there. Any suggestions/recommendations on training and not dying on Saturday is greatly appreciated.

What are you training for, and when? Long runs are supposed to be about 2 minutes per mile slower than your projected race pace?

I think taking it somewhat easy is a good idea. During the summer I was did both provo and hobble creek half marathons while training for TOU. I was so dead the week before Hobble Creek (I had bronchitis) So I only ran that Thursday and PR'd on Hobble. Having fresh rested legs goes a long way! Nice miles this week and great job on finishing your long run even if you weren't feeling your best!

No need to "BBBBBBLLLLLLLAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH" about the run. Sounds like you weren't feeling too hot, but I still really enjoyed the company. You are the reason I ran those 18, probably wouldn't have happened on my own.

Thanks for helping me train for my marathon. There were a lot of miles we ran together the past weeks: Crazy 5k after the 14, REALLY windy run on the hills, B-day run in the wind, and 11 cents (a.k.a. circle run). Each one I felt better after the run than before. Thanks for being there for me. :)

you have been doing a lot of miles and cross training. Josse told me once that you should do 3 hard weeks followed by an easy week. If you could have run with me this morning, you would have felt like a champ. Those are great splits--and remember you can go as low as 2 minutes below marathon pace when you're just trying to get in the mileage. Get rested up, then try 6-7 at marathon pace on your next long run. You'll be fine, you are strong, but you might need a 'down week'.

I think you are being crazy! That is a very decent avg pace for a long run. Sorry you were feeling like crud, but it sounds and looks like you pulled off a great run for feeling BLAH!

It was nice to see you as you ran UP and we ran DOWN. We were at mile 12 and you were finishing, guess you can see who slept in!

Slick, my MAIN goal this year is to PR (hopefully under 3:30) on the marathon. I'll be doing the slam, but only racing UVM and SGM. I do have Spectrum 10K coming up next Saturday, but I figure those 'short' races your times just kind of come or don't...

Carina, I think it would be a good idea for me to take a 'rest' week this week. Especially since I want to try and hit Spectrum hard. I won't make it with legs like this!

Becca, I just feel bad, because I know you are SO strong and could leave me in the dust. But, you are a good running partner and stick with me through the slow and sore miles - Thanks!

Luz, I'm such a pansie! I've honestly never tried to hit MP miles during a long run. I just run and run and it's usually directionless. I just don't know where my head and my soul are right now. It's tough!

Kelli, I was surprised at the AP, because I felt like complete CRUD the whole time. I think I just need an 'off' week. Time to build up instead of the constant break down I'm in right now. Some personal yoga sessions wouldn't be bad either :) you'll have to let me know when you guys are doing them! Oh, and I would've LOVED to sleep in, but I started 'working' with someone on Saturday's now and Nazi mother needs me to pick him up - blah! to that too!

Teena, I guess it's not so much about the pace, but how I felt during the run. It just never got 'easy' I felt every step and they all took effort. Not like some runs where you just get into it and miles fly by.

Toby, I think it maybe a lot of my personal life spilling into my running right now. I think a massage may be EXACTLY what I need! :)

devine miss m - somedays are just better than others, you have been training hard, good luck at Spectrum, see you down there. I read an article about Japan women's Olypmic marathon runners, they ran the majority of there miles at a 11 minute pace. The key, know when you have a good workout plan, tempo runs, etc. Also, cooking up the bacon ain't easy.
