Short-Term Running Goals:

Okay, so for 2013 I am going to have FUN! Not that running isn't always fun, but I had a wonderful breakthrough year last year and I want to play this year :) AND get faster! So, my first goal I'm going to put out there is my yearly mileage goal.
It is 2,186 miles from my driveway to my sister (QP's) driveway! I want to spend this year on a virtual trek cross country running those miles. So, that is how far I will run in 2013...from my house to QPs. It will take all year and yes, this is measured on Hwys so it isn't really exactly how I COULD run it, but good enough. 43 miles/week...totally doable, and a fun goal to track how far I've traveled as I go along. Who knows...maybe I'll even run PAST her house :)

I will do more trail runs, Boston, Pacing duties, another Half IM and some other tris. I'm excited for this next year and look forward to having fun with all of you out on the roads, and trails! Maybe bag a few peaks this year too!!

Long-Term Running Goals:

Big Dreams: 5K in 20:2X; 10K in 39:XX; Half in 1:29:XX; Full in 3:15:XX; complete the Rim2Rim2Rim run and not die; Comrades; Iron(wo)Man.

Run for the rest of my life!

Personal:

4 children: twelve, eight, five and baby Fartlek - 2 1/2. Wonderful supportive husband that lets me drag him and the family all over for race after race!

Finished 13 marathons and LOVE running that distance! I'm definitely hooked to the marathon monster and hope to constantly improve my endurance, speed and stay injury free!

I've also found a love of trail running! I hope to keep improving on this front.

After being injured with a broken foot at the first of 2012 I found a tri group and started training with them and am now loving tris! The half IM was harder than I'd ever imagined...and am ready to do it again. I'll earn my bike butt and someday have enough time to train for a full IM.

ahhh, magnificent rest day! My running muscles and legs need a break from the regular pounding today. I busted my butt to get to spin class at the gym on time and I barely made it! It was a good class, but the bikes are different from what I'm used to so I'll have to learn to adjust them better. The teacher threatened us within an inch of our lives if we got up (even just out of the saddle) for the first 30 minutes - I didn't dare get off to adjust my bike after that!

It was a good spin class, but different from what I'm used to. They had a big screen with a video of a bike race during class. It was fun to watch, but I think sometimes I got too distracted from the 'workout'. Also, I don't know if it was just my bike or what, but the tension didn't really adjust all that much. I couldn't tell a difference (well, much) between 2-4 turns up, like I said this new stuff will take some getting used to. I did get an amazing workout and kept the HR up there the entire time.

The teacher gave some good pointers about form as well, she is very knowledgeable but also a little too prissy for my taste :) Not to mention that she was wearing a v-cut tank and her double D's were bouncing all over with no support and nearly falling out as she leaned over the bike during class. I now know why the guys like to go to her class! Anyway, I digress. After class she did a good 15 min stretch class that was great and just what I needed. However, don't make any suggestions about stretching or a good way to stretch a certain part of your body to anyone asking or she will bite your head off and basically tell you that you know nothing and that SHE will tell them the best stretch. Sorry, digressing again.

Finished off with an easy 1.75 on the elliptical in 20 min on L12. They have lots of my favorite ellipticals just like the ones at my old gym, so I felt at home for a bit :)

Merri, you can have her! Like I said, the workout was good and she is very knowledgeable, so I can't really find fault, but MAN her personality is NOT one that I could stand for long outside the classroom (or her dressing style).

I know the type. :)

I think that is the worst part about this gym. Most of the teachers I have encountered are this way. I still miss my little 'cheers' gym where everyone knew your name and the teachers were nice :(

From Merri on Fri, Feb 25, 2011 at 15:56:18 from 160.7.252.148

Our golds in Spanish Fork is like that (the 'cheers' gym), and it really is the best.

Maybe I should just move down there! I could still have my same Fieldstone house and everything. Plus, I'd already know 1/2 the neighborhood :)

That teacher dresses like Barbie that I see out walking in my neighborhood from time to time. But I've never met Barbie so I don't know what her personality is. Good luck getting used to the new gym.

lol rachel, it's sooooo true!!!

From RAD on Fri, Feb 25, 2011 at 16:11:38 from 67.172.229.125

Carolyn, the new gym I go to is FULL of 'barbies' talk about being self-conscious showing up with big hips, thighs and rolls trying to hide under my race shirts. Oh, and no make-up either mind you. I think I may be charged a 'fee' for not wearing make-up during my workouts - maybe sweating too much too.

Merri, I'm there! I just have to wait until my house is worth what I owe on it then I'll come :)

That would definitely turn me off to any class!! Nice job on sticking it out!

Oh Rachel~

You are one funny girl!!!!! :)

RAD ~ I am laughing so hard!!! :D A fee for not wearing make-up and sweating too much! :) U R HILARIOUS!!! :D

OMG! And the Barbies...is that why Paul likes to go there so much?! :)

From Toby on Fri, Feb 25, 2011 at 20:49:32 from 216.194.124.36

I go to the gym workout not to have a fashion show....those barbies drive me nuts! Hopefully this gym change is good and stretching your workout regime! Look at all those miles this week!

From RAD on Fri, Feb 25, 2011 at 20:49:57 from 67.172.229.125

Carina, the nice big movie screen that played a bike race during class was a life saver! :)

Teena, have you ever been to lifetime? You are cute enough to fit in, but I'm like big foot there! At least now I'll get some good gym stories to share :)

Smooth, I'm not sure, but probably not. I'd imagine the ladies that would come at 5:30 when he is at the gym are more like me. I just have to hit the gym at busy time with all the barbies who have had enough time in the morning to get ready and are there for social hour.

That sounds like a very interesting class. I'm glad you took a break from running cuz it's good to have a break sometimes and give your legs a rest.
